A leafy suburb east of Detroit
With historic homes, standout local schools and amenities close to home, Grosse Pointe Park is among the most sought-after suburbs east of Detroit. It's situated on the shores of Lake St. Clair only a short drive from the city’s downtown, making it a great spot for those who commute. “This [community] dates back to the 1920s and 30s. It’s very walkable to schools, restaurants and parks. Whoever did the planning here did a great job,” says Realtor Shana Sine-Cameron of Sine & Monaghan Realtors, who has more than two decades of experience in the area.

No cookie-cutter homes in Grosse Pointe Park
Take a drive through the neighborhood's leafy streets and you’ll see half-timbered Tudor Revival homes, elegant Colonial Revival homes and eclectic Craftsman homes with wide front porches and exposed beams. “The architecture is outstanding. This is not a community built on model homes. You get a little of everything,” says Sine-Cameron. Many homes are on large lots, offering residents plenty of space and privacy, although several streets on the western side of the district have smaller homes and lots for those seeking a more affordable option. Luxurious mansions and multi-million-dollar homes can be found by the waterfront. Mature trees with lush foliage fill the neighborhood with greenery in the spring and summer. Prices typically range from around $400,000 to $800,000, while larger homes and waterfront homes can sell for upwards of $1 million.
Grosse Pointe Park is known for its stock of highly-sought-after Tudor style homes.

Pickleball at Patterson Park
In addition to the abundance of natural scenery you’ll see along the streetscape, there are also several parks nearby to enjoy. Patterson Park is the largest in the neighborhood and offers residents a place for picnicking, pickleball and bocce courts and a gorgeous, landscaped boardwalk that traverses the water's edge. A little further south is Windmill Pointe Park, a local community space with a swimming pool, fishing pier, tennis and volleyball courts and a marina that juts out into the deep blue water of the lake. It also has an indoor recreation center with a fitness center.
Residents of Grosse Pointe Park enjoy free access to Windmill Point Park's pool.

Breweries, diners and fresh seafood
Dining can be found close to home on Kercheval Avenue, Charlevoix Street and Mack Avenue. You can get your morning started with a French pastry and an espresso at LeRouge Bakery or stop off for a breakfast plate at The Cracked Egg of Grosse Pointe, a beloved local diner. Brine Oyster House is the perfect place to try some fresh seafood, while those looking for takeout can put in an order at Summer Palace, a local Chinese restaurant. Cocktail lounges, breweries and bars can also be found here, including Excalibur Park, The Charlevoix and Atwater in the Park, a local beer hall in a converted church. For all your grocery needs, there’s Trader Joe’s, Kroger and Aldi, all less than a mile away. Jefferson Avenue runs through the center of the neighborhood, providing a direct route to downtown Detroit — it’s only 7 miles away, although you might want to plan your travels around rush hour. For those who prefer public transit, there are several bus stops along the area's busier roads.
