Acres Homes has come a long way since being annexed to Houston
Once an unincorporated, largely wooded community, Acres Homes was gradually annexed to Houston in the 1960s and '70s and has since experienced a myriad of transformations. Now home to nearly 30,000 people, Acres Homes is a bustling residential neighborhood undergoing a shift in identity. Remnants of the area's rural past remain, but glimpses of a revamped future are evident throughout the area. "As you get outside the 610 Loop, homes get a little bit more affordable," says local Realtor Cesar Martinez of BlueRoof Real Estate, who has over 20 years of experience. "People want to live in The Heights, but it's half a million to buy a little house. So everybody started moving north to Independence Heights, and those have now become half a million, $1 million. So the only place left was Acres Homes, which is still nearby the city and you have affordability, so you're still buying a nice 2,000-square-foot brand new house for $350,000 with a nice little backyard."
Acres Homes, a historic district in northwest Houston, Texas, boasts a rich cultural heritage.

Acres Homes offers affordable homes compared to its neighboring communities
Buyers will find a wide range of styles in Acres Homes. "My client just bought a 4,000-square-foot lot for $48,000, and then down the street are nothing but modern houses, and his neighbor's house is an old farm," Martinez says. Established bungalows and ranch-style dwellings sit alongside larger, newer tract homes and modern builds. Most homes price between $200,000 and $400,000, though some residences with ample square footage sell for more than $700,000. With new subdivisions taking root across the neighborhood, it's not uncommon for investors to purchase homes and flip or demolish them entirely to make room for updated properties.
Despite its rural beginnings, Acres Homes has grown into a diverse and vibrant community.

I really adore Burns BBQ great food and atmosphere. I would love to see more tearing down and rebuilding of homes and streets with what BossLife Construction is doing.

I was raised in the house that I am in now, and my family and I moved out when I was a toddler. However, we moved back into the house due to financial issues when I was 16. The environment is okay, but definitely not where I want to be when I move out on my own. I've had the opportunity to live in better areas, and experienced a piece of a life of luxury. So, to go from that to where I am now is very depressing. The neighborhood isn't quiet there's always something going on. I can be in my own world when I'm in the house, but as soon as I step out those doors I see my reality and I'm not satisfied. So, if I could choose to live here or not, I definitely would not. I hope there is a future for this area, but it's been the way it is so long I don't know if change will come. I am hopeful though.

I believe with the local businesses in this area we're able to get everything a family needs. The grocery stores are good around here, Food Town is one of my favorites and lots of people in my family like to shop at the Smart Shop Joe V's. I feel we should have a bigger variety when it comes to clothing and make-up stores. We need nicer shopping centers and events while out shopping.
