Why Live in Hugo

Hugo, Minnesota, is a small Twin Cities suburb that has experienced significant growth since the early 2000s, particularly in its housing market. Despite this growth, Hugo has retained its charming atmosphere, characterized by numerous parks, lakes and community events. New Traditional and modern Craftsman homes make up most of the area, but you can find some older ranch-style houses. Townhouses, including detached units, make up nearly a third of the market. Residents enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, with over 470 acres of parkland and the 10-mile-long Hardwood Creek Regional Trail. Key parks include Lions Volunteer Park, which has a large playground and a skate park. Hugo is served by four public school districts, including the highly rated Mahtomedi Public School District and Stillwater Area Public School District. The city has a handful of local shops and restaurants, such as Boom’s Ice Cream Shop and Blue Heron Grill, primarily located downtown and in Victor Marketplace. Highway 61 provides a direct route to downtown Saint Paul, about 20 miles away, while downtown Minneapolis is approximately 30 miles away. Community events like Hugo Good Neighbor Days and the Hugo Oktoberfest Craft & Vendor Show foster a strong sense of community among residents.
