With the charm of a historic district and just 1 mile east of downtown Huntsville, Five Points is a tiny neighborhood with big personality. "Anyone moving here should be ready to live a big life in a charming, small footprint just outside of the downtown area," says Kelsey Zwack Pizzato, a Realtor with Keller Williams. Five Points has an interesting mix of architectural features, with part of the area listed as a historic district. In Five Points, residents experience a blend of history and modernity while knowing there's a closeknit community feel backing up their everyday lives. With lively neighborhood events and so close to the center of the city, there's no shortage of entertainment to be found.

The diverse vintage homes found in Five Points
The homes in the area are generally smaller, with a high price per square foot. Sometimes, that could mean being ready for a home that might need some work. "It's an eclectic blend of entry-level housing spanning the last 150 years. Some are in great condition, while others need TLC. It depends on what sort of work you want to be into it," Pizzato says. Architectural styles include Craftsman, ranch-style, duplexes and manufactured homes. Historic Five Points also has lots of bungalows, in addition to styles like Queen Anne and Colonial Revival. Some homes have driveways at the front of the house, while others have garages behind the house, accessible only by a back alley running parallel to the main road between two rows of houses. Small homes that need some renovations sell between $150,000 and $200,000, modern townhomes sell between $200,000 and $260,000, while well-maintained vintage homes can range anywhere between $400,000 to $800,000.

Running errands and grabbing coffee from Olde Towne
Plenty of big-name errand stops are nearby, like the Publix Supermarket at Twickenham Square, the Kroger along Oakwood Avenue, or the Costco Wholesale on Memorial Parkway. A couple of convenience stores like Hi & Bye are in the area, and the Star Super Market, which should cover a quick, last-minute grocery run. While walking downtown, residents stop at Olde Towne Coffee Shop for in-house roasted coffee and breakfast sandwiches. Hanging out on porches for live music
PorchFest FivePoints is a local event that started in response to the pandemic. It grew from a single-porch private concert to a series of concerts happening on several porches. It's a community-driven event made possible by porch hosts who want to share their hospitality, small business sponsors who believe in the community, and musicians excited to perform in front of a live crowd. On the evening of PorchFest, streets are closed where the concerts are held, and food trucks come rumbling in to sell food and drinks.

Huntsville City Schools serve public schools, and kids may start at Blossomwood Elementary, which receives a B-plus on Niche. Students move on to Huntsville Junior High — the oldest junior high in the Huntsville City Schools District — which also gets an overall B-plus. The last step in basic education happens at Huntsville High, which touts an A and is one of the best STEM schools in Huntsville. The school offers 15 Advanced Placement courses alongside preparatory courses for college education.

Where to get outside time around Five Points
North of the Maple Hill Cemetery is Lewter Park, a green space sprinkled with trees and mostly enclosed with a picket fence. Kids can run around, climb on the playset, fly on the swings or ride one of the spring riders. There is also a blacktop basketball court and plenty of seating with benches and picnic tables. Beirne Avenue Park has a playground that is more suitable for sliding down one of the several slides on the playset than climbing. Across the street is the Goldsmith-Schiffman Field, a historic athletic park used for local sports games.
Get-A-Way Skate Park in Huntsville is a great place for BMX biking and skateboarding.
At Big Spring Park near 5 Points in Huntsville you can take a walk and feed the fish and ducks.
