One of Lansing’s most prestigious neighborhoods
Moores River Drive is a reminder of Lansing at the height of its automotive manufacturing days, and today is the home of the Michigan governor's mansion. "There's a lot of old money over there and huge homes," says Realtor Michael Korrey with Re/Max Real Estate Professionals. "It's like the Whitehills in a time before Whitehills were a thing," he says, referring to one of East Lansing's most affluent locales. With riverfront parks and lush residential streets, those who settle here tend to stay for a while. "My grandparents grew up around there and decided to build their house there," Korrey says. "People like being on the golf course; it's very family-friendly and safe — and the parks are awesome."

Unique homes stay in families for generations
Homes in Moores River Drive are among the most unique in Lansing, especially along the Grand River and to the west of Lansing Country Club. Tastefully decorated brick ranch-style homes sit next to timeless Colonial revivals and Tudor-inspired estates. And there is space to spread out, with 2,500-square-foot floor plans and 1/2-acre lots. Prices range from $250,000 up to $450,000 based on size and recency of renovations. "Those houses are very desirable when they do come available, which isn't often because many of them are generational," says Lansing native Brian Ozbun, a Realtor with Bellabay Realty. Homes are smaller on the east side of the country club, primarily mid-century modern ranches, early-1900s detached row homes and smaller Cape Cods. There are also a few condo options. Prices here start around $350,000 and can go as low as $150,000 for fixer-upper properties.

A country club and a network of local parks
A members' club since it was founded in 1908, the Country Club of Lansing has an 18-hole golf course, pickleball and tennis courts and a clubhouse with refined dining options. But those without a membership can still enjoy the outdoors with several nearby parks. Frances Park puts a more formal spin on a local park. Its manicured rose garden has over 155 varieties between soccer fields and the river. Frances is popular for graduation parties, playground playdates and Greater Lansing Open Soccer games. It's also a treasured place to watch the sunset across the river. Quentin Park is a go-to neighborhood spot for sledding, and Moores Park has a beloved swimming pool that's set to reopen in 2025 following renovations. Moores Park also has a kayak and canoe launch.

Less traffic on the south side
Bus lines run along MLK Boulevard and Mt. Hope Avenue, but not within the neighborhood, so most locals have cars. Situated on Lansing's south side, Moores River Drive has less traffic than farther north, with grocery stores that don't have crowded parking lots. But, even with REO Town's recent growth, most of the energy of Lansing sits on the other side of the river. And Moores River Drive residents have a longer trip up to the Capital Region International Airport, which is 7 miles away.
