The remaining rural feel of Finch Farms is just 2 miles from downtown
Finch Farms is a quiet residential stretch of South Aberdeen with a name that reflects its past. “The lots are a little larger. It used to be a big farming area, and horses used to be permitted,” says Keren Spangler, a broker with Premier Realty Grays Harbor-Aberdeen. “It has a lower price point, and [homebuyers] can get away from the flood insurance,” she says, explaining that the installation of a levee has removed some of Finch Farms from the flood plain that covers much of Aberdeen. Downtown is just about 2 miles from the overgrowth and somewhat rural feel of Finch Farms.
Storybook cottages and 1970s ranch-style homes on large lots
Weathered residential streets lead past blooming trees and wide gravel driveways in Finch Farms, while stretches of lush greenery separate clusters of homes. Ranch-style homes from the 1960s and 1970s range between $200,000 and $260,000, while storybook cottages from as early as the 1920s fetch from $290,000 to $390,000. Recreational vehicles, workshops and sheds are common throughout the neighborhood, and lots can range up to three-quarters of an acre.
Despite the addition of the levee, portions of the neighborhood may still be at a higher risk for flooding.
Several nearby community parks and the Chehalis Riverfront Walkway
Garley Park is located in the center of the neighborhood, largely surrounded by residential streets. The green space consists of a dog run, a half-basketball court and a playground with a rock-climbing wall. To the northeast of the neighborhood, the Pioneer Park Sports Complex is home to several softball and baseball diamonds, a basketball court, a tennis court and horseshoes. A gray cement skatepark with a series of ramps, rails and other obstacles is nearby. The Chehalis Riverfront Walkway follows its namesake river along the west of the neighborhood. It spans about 3 miles and leads to the athletic fields, concession stands and amphitheater at Bishop Athletic Complex.
Few eateries in South Aberdeen, with more options across the river
While most of the area’s dining options are located across the river, there are a few closer spots in South Aberdeen. Thai Carrot & That’s Boba prepares various curries, pho, Thai soups and stir-fried noodle dishes. For a refreshing post-meal treat, there’s Thai iced tea and a selection of flavored milk tea. Next door, Boone Street Bar & Grill serves classic Mexican and American cuisine, along with an extensive breakfast menu. The restaurant changed owners in 2024 and now offers alcoholic beverages as well. Go Dog Go is a cheerful pink drive-thru with espresso, smoothies and snacks. Swanson’s Foods is on the southern side of the river, with more options across the bridge.
Gray Harbor College and the Aberdeen School District
Children may begin their education at Stevens Elementary School, which scores a C grade from Niche. They may then move forward to Miller Junior High School, which receives a C-minus, before enrolling at the B-minus-rated Aberdeen High School. Aberdeen High partners with the Twin Harbors Skill Center to offer intensive career and technical education courses in fields like electrical engineering and refrigeration, criminal justice and medical assisting on campus. Four years of American Sign Language instruction are available, as well as various fine and visual arts classes. Just east of the neighborhood, Grays Harbor College offers two-year associate’s degrees, as well as three bachelor’s degrees. “It has a pretty robust baseball program,” Spangler says. “We have sponsorships and students coming from out of state to participate in the baseball and basketball programs.”
SR-105 crosses the Chehalis River to reach downtown Aberdeen
Finch Farms lies just north of Washington state Route 105. The highway continues north to downtown Aberdeen — around 2 miles away — and south along the banks of South Bay to Westport and Grayland. Grays Harbor Transit maintains two routes that stop near the neighborhood. Bus 10S travels throughout South Aberdeen before crossing the Chehalis River and heading downtown. Bus 70 stops near Finch Farm on its way from Hoquiam to Westport and Grayland. For long-distance travel, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, or SeaTac, is about 100 miles away, providing flights across the country and to worldwide destinations.
