Located about 20 miles south of Boston and 25 miles north of Plymouth, this former shoe manufacturing center is now a primarily residential suburb known for expansive natural landscapes and outdoor recreation. Home to about 17,000 people, the town’s median household income is $119,787, slightly above the state median. Many people work in healthcare, education and retail services, and the community boasts many small-sized businesses. “Abington is a great up-and-coming town,” says Menajda Kasza, a real estate agent at Coldwell Banker Realty with 6 years of experience. “It’s very commuter-friendly and gives you a small-town feel with a relaxed lifestyle.”

Homes in Abington are largely concentrated on the east side of town, and the median home price is $530,000. Built from the late 1880s to the present day, single-family homes, including Cape Cods, ranch styles, bungalows and Workers Cottages, usually list around $300,000 to $600,000, while larger Colonial Revivals can go over $900,000. Multifamily residences are less common, and condos and townhouses date from the 1970s to present day. Townhouses are usually in the $400,000s, and condos are about $250,000. Outdoor opportunities at the Ames Nowell State Park
Occupying the west side of town, the 700-acre Ames Nowell State Park is the town’s main outdoor destination, with trails for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. The park’s centerpiece is Cleveland Pond, which is popular for fishing and non-motorized boating. In addition to the state park, the public nine-hole Strawberry Valley Golf Course is also used for cross-country skiing and sledding in the winter. In the summer, residents can go to Island Grove Park, which is home to the town’s summer day camp, or they can take their pets to Abington Dog Park for playtime. Abington experiences humid summers and snowy winters.

Navigating into Boston
The town sits between Massachusetts State Routes 3 and 24 and is close to Interstate 93. There is an MBTA commuter rail station by Centre Avenue, and the Kingston Line takes commuters directly to Boston’s South Station. Logan International Airport is approximately 25 miles north, and South Shore Hospital is about 5 miles away.
