Country living with access to metro-area conveniences

Commuters abound in Adamsville, a small, rural town that's convenient for those who work in nearby Birmingham. "It's a straightforward commute into downtown, and this area is a great location for everyone from first-time buyers to young people who are coming back to raise their families, to retirees who want to be close to the metro Birmingham area," says Realtor Peggy Lucas with eXp Realty. Adamsville is surrounded by generational farmland, which Lucas says attracts buyers who want to live around a tight-knit community and get a taste of country life. "My husband's family has a cattle farm, where we get homegrown, grass-fed beef and many other farm goods. It's a great area," Lucas says.

Renovated older homes and new construction bring new interest to town

Adamsville is in the valley surrounded by rolling hills, farmland, and oak and pine forests. Some residences closer to Main Street are clustered more densely, but the community still has a quiet, rural suburban feel. There's a mix of home styles from the 20th century, from shingle cottages to Craftsman-style homes priced between $75,000 and $140,000. Farmhouse-style, split-level and ranch-style homes are also priced from $150,000 to $285,000. "A lot of these older homes are being completely renovated, which, again, brings more people to the area," Lucas says. Adamsville also features houses from the 21st century, including New Traditional and contemporary construction priced between $200,000 and $270,000.

Adamsville schools offer career and technical programs

Jefferson County Schools serves Adamsville, and all schools in the community earn a C or C-plus rating from Niche. Students may start at Adamsville Elementary before attending Minor Middle and Minor High. The high school offers two career and technical education academies: the Academy of Law, Arts and Business, and the Academy of Medicine, Automotive and Construction.

Community parks offer splash pads, sports fields and trails

Adamsville is home to several community parks, including Spring Street Park. The green space features a playground, splash pad, tennis courts and athletic fields. Spring Street also has a large, paved walking loop and a nine-hole disc golf course. Nearby, Adamsville Blackwell Park features basketball courts and playgrounds. The park also hosts cookouts and family celebrations at the large, covered picnic area and gazebo. Outside the community, the Parkwest Youth Athletic Complex features softball, baseball and soccer fields next to Minor High School's football stadium.

Highway 78 has chain stores, comfort food and local businesses

Residents will find most amenities along the community's main thoroughfare, Highway 78. In addition to the supply shops and small businesses, there are stores like Walmart and Ollie's Bargain Outlet. There are chain restaurants like Jack's Restaurant and Sonic, alongside locally owned places like P&K Shave Ice and Woodbury's Food for the Soul, a popular stop for comfort foods and desserts. Even with the area's rural feel, Lucas mentions that it's beginning to grow. "The downtown area is being renovated so it's a little more appealing to buyers and visitors," she says. Adamsville is about 13 miles from Gardendale, an area many residents north of Birmingham may travel to for grocery stores like Publix and more dining and retail.

Major highways connect residents to Birmingham and beyond

Highway 78 runs through Adamsville, meeting up with Interstate 22 just north of the community. These two major thoroughfares are two routes residents may use to reach downtown Birmingham, 12 miles away. In Birmingham, Interstates 59, 22, 20 and 65 merge. Most major resources are in Birmingham, like Princeton Baptist Medical Center, 10 miles from Adamsville, and UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham, 14 miles away. Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport is about 16 miles away. The community has a CAP Index Crime Score of four out of 10, the same as the United States' score.
