Sought after Conejo Valley city with a rural feel

Home to celebrities and offering mountain views, Agoura Hills is a Conejo Valley city offering a mix of privacy and convenience. "The location is ideal — not close enough to LA to feel urbanized, but not too far from fun and business," says Ramiro Adeva, Assistant City Manager of Agoura Hills. "And we're less than 20 miles from Malibu Beaches." The city attracts nature lovers, as multiple equestrian stables operate here, and miles of trails shape Agoura Hills.

Gateway to the Santa Monica Mountains

Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area borders Agoura Hills and offers 500 miles of trails. “Agoura Hills is a favorite for nature lovers and those seeking a more relaxed lifestyle,” says David Watkins, Realtor at Pinnacle Estate Properties. Old Agoura, in particular, stands out for its equestrian trails, hiking opportunities, and wide-open spaces. The city’s six traditional parks provide public playgrounds and greenspace. Reyes Adobe Park is the site of a playground, picnic space, and the Reyes Adobe Historic Site. The preserved 19th-century home at Reyes Adobe Site is now a museum.

Suburban communities and spacious country homes

“Options range from affordable condos for first-time buyers to expansive equestrian estates,” says Watkins. “The area’s charm lies in its mix of rural ambiance and well-maintained neighborhoods.” Single-family homes sell for a median of $1.5 million, but prices vary widely. A handful of ranch-style and Craftsman homes sell for under a million. Suburbs stocked with Modern Traditional and Mediterranean Revival homes sell for around the median price. Buyers seeking more privacy and shopping with a larger budget may look in neighborhoods like Old Agoura, where expansive properties start at $3 million and go up from there.

Events in Agoura Hills

Agoura Hills is best known for the Great Race, a 40-year-old springtime tradition. Participants can enroll in races spanning from 1 mile to 10 miles. At the after-party, refreshments and live music are offered. Reyes Adobe Days is held in the fall. The event draws a crowd of thousands for the parade, live music, vendors, food trucks and tours of the adobe.

Wildfire threat and crime in the Agoura Hills

Hot summers and mountain winds contribute to the fire risk in Conejo Valley. In 2018, the Woolsey Fire burned through Thousand Oaks, just five miles away. While the 2025 Palisades Fire did not spread to Agoura Hills, the air quality was significantly affected.

The Agoura Hills Police Department reported a steady uptick in violent crime, peaking in 2023. However, no homicides have been reported since 2020. Property crime dipped in 2020 but has been on the rise since 2022.
