Airway Heights has a rural, small-town feel near Spokane

Airway Heights, a small city on a plateau west of Spokane, is well-named — it's settled between Fairchild Air Force Base and Spokane International Airport. Over recent decades, this patch of countryside has boomed with suburban neighborhoods and shopping centers, especially after the opening of the Northern Quest Resort & Casino and the Spokane Tribe Resort & Casino. Today, you’ll find modern parks and recreation centers, Sunset Highway strip malls and plenty of newly constructed houses close to some of the county’s biggest employers and Downtown Spokane.

Newly constructed houses for lower prices than in Spokane

Suburban subdivisions of single-family homes have boomed on Airway Heights’ west side since the 2000s. You can find contemporary single-level homes with smaller floor plans or opt for sprawling contemporary houses with luxury appliances and upward of four bedrooms. While new builds dominate the market, you can also find lower-cost historic bungalows and ranch-style homes, as well as apartments with units for rent. Single-family homes sell from the lower $200,000s to the mid-$500,000s. Airway Heights has a median single-family home price in the upper $300,000s. That’s lower than the median price in Spokane. In addition, the homes in Airway Heights were typically built in the 2010s or later, whereas Spokane’s housing stock is much older.

Route 2 dining and shopping in Airway Heights

“It has really become a kind of retail hub over the last few years,” says Realtor Steven Silbar of John L. Scott Realty, who has lived and worked in the area for over a decade. “It used to be you had to go to Spokane proper to get your shopping done, but now you can do most of it in town.” Casual local eateries line Sunset Highway, as do many well-known chains and a handful of big-box and grocery stores like Walmart. A range of other restaurants and boutiques operate out of the city’s casinos and resorts. You’re less than 20 minutes from downtown Spokane, where you’ll find waterfront restaurants, retailers at River Park Square and many other commercial hubs.
