Most homes sell for around $70,000, compared to $160,000 in Albany as a whole,” says Roger Jones, a Realtor with The Real Estate Concierge and former Albany police officer. “It’s more of an investor area. For the most part, people renovate, hold and rent those properties out. There are some streets that are pretty nice for first-time homebuyers.” While Jackson Heights is largely residential, it also includes mom-and-pop eateries and Robert H. Harvey Elementary School.

He’s returned that community support with events like free food giveaways on the Fourth of July. “There are a lot of chain restaurants, 2 or 3 miles south on Oglethorpe Boulevard," Jones says. “A Maryland Fried Chicken just got built into the Valero gas station that’s really close by on the east side.” For produce and meat at a discount, there’s Rubo’s market, while a Walmart Supercenter is 3 miles east on Cordele Road.

Downtown, Fridays on the Flint is a free music concert series on the first Friday of every month from May through November at the Veterans Park Amphitheatre. Jones says All American Fun Park is another popular destination for entertainment. “It has an arcade, go-kart tracks and mini golf,” he says. “It’s only like five or 10 minutes away. You can pretty much get anywhere in Albany in 10 to 15 minutes. That’s one of the nice things about living there.”
