A small business epicenter of Albany
Located at the northernmost point of Albany, Pecan Grove is a neighborhood of around 1,140 people that’s divided into four quadrants around the highway. A mostly rental community with plenty of ponds, hotels and fast-food restaurants, Pecan Grove is also a small industrial hub with local businesses centered around welding, landscaping, electrical services and automotive care. “The people on this side of town are hardworking,” says Terrie Patterson, a local resident of 13 years. “We all live with each other, speak to each other and get along great.”

Creek fishing, baseball and go-karting
Conveniently located next to Kinchafoonee Creek, residents can often be found boating and fishing in the 90-mile body of water. Kayaks and canoes can be reserved from Up The Creek, a local outdoor business that also offers campgrounds and cabin rentals. Baseball games are held at the local field in Ken Gardens Sports Complex, which also has its own park and fishing pond. Even more activities await at the local All American Fun Park, which includes a quarter-mile go-kart track, two miniature golf courses and 16 bowling lanes.

Loop around Liberty Expressway
Centered around the highway interchange, Pecan Grove residents experience frequent noise pollution thanks to close proximity to Highways 82 and 19. Residents will need to be car-dependent as the Albany Transit System does not have routes to Pecan Grove, but there is enough open space for limited bike travel. The closest 24-hour emergency care is 3 miles away at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital, while the nearest commercial airport is 8 miles south at Southwest Georgia.
Environmental concerns
Thunderstorms are common around the area, with the parks surrounding Kinchafoonee Creek and Ken Gardens Pond most at risk of flooding. The CAP index does indicate a higher risk of property crimes such as burglaries and larcenies, but that’s more due to the high crime found in Albany. “It’s a safe community,” Terrie says. “We have a few minor crimes, but ugly stuff does not come from this side of town.”
