The first homes in River Pointe Plantation started to crop up around 1995, and since then, the community’s growth has been slow but steady. Most houses built between 1995 and 2005 are new traditional styles, with brick or stucco siding. They are often over 2,000 square feet and sell between $320,000 and $450,000. Contemporary styles have popped up since 2010, usually sitting on one or two acres and featuring amenities such as private lake docks. These homes are higher in price range, selling between $500,000 and $900,000. Dougherty Comprehensive High School gets an A grade for extracurriculars
River Pointe Plantation falls under the Dougherty County School System, and many local kids will start their education at Northside Elementary before heading to Albany Middle, both of which receive a C-minus on Niche. Dougherty Comprehensive High School gets a C overall but gets an A for its diverse club offerings and extracurriculars. It's also the first and only high school in Dougherty County under the charter school system to implement the International Baccalaureate Program.

Across Philema Road is the entrance to the Chehaw Park and Zoo, which features a children's play park, walking and biking trails and an 18-hole disc golf course.
