South Albany - an evolving enclave
On the edge of town, South Albany has excitement in unlikely places. Tranquil gazebos rest beside rock-filled gardens and waterfalls on 18 whimsical holes of the Lakeshore Miniature Golf Course. With new housing developments, expanding local businesses and a community college, South Albany is evolving into a distinguished locality less than 4 miles south of downtown Albany. South Albany is developing quickly with communities like the Henshaw Farm Subdivision, a neighborhood with two-story builds next to the hayfields on Ellingson Road. One of the most popular neighborhoods, the "Animal Kingdom," is a subdivision where the streets are named after native and exotic animals. On Bobcat Avenue, an eclectic mix of houses sit on modest lots with paved driveways into two-car garages behind narrow sidewalks. This neighborhood features housing styles like New Traditional, Craftsman and contemporary ranch-style homes. Prices range from $350,000 to $750,000.
