Sand Mountain Park is the city's entertainment center
Sand Mountain Park, opened in 2021, is a source of city pride. The 130-acre space is home to dozens of sports amenities, several playgrounds and a waterpark. Across from the park’s athletic facilities is a 6,000-seat amphitheater that hosts concerts and other live events. In winter, the amphitheater transforms into the region’s largest outdoor ice rink. “The park has increased our quality of life,” Weathers Smith says. “It’s a big deal for our mental and physical health.” Other city parks are focused on recreation and ae used as gathering spaces. Just over 15% of residents live within a 10-minute walk of a park, lower than the urban U.S. median of 55%.

The MTN District is filled with local shops and restaurants
The city refers to its downtown as the MTN District. It is filled with local restaurants, bakeries and breweries, and drinks can be enjoyed while walking around the area. “A lot of those buildings are more than 100 years old,” Weathers Smith says. “With all the new restaurants and bars, they are coming back to life.” Retail boutiques are also abundant. The city recently announced that a retail and restaurant development called Sand Mountain Marketplace is coming soon.

The Albertville Museum is in the heart of downtown
The city has tried to inject more culture into its downtown in recent years, including moving the Albertville Museum downtown in 2019. The Downtown Albertville Farmers Market operates twice per week from May through August and once per week in September and October. Each summer, the Made on the Mountain Festival celebrates life on Sand Mountain with live music and food trucks.

The coolest climate in Alabama
The city’s violent crime and property crime rates have risen in recent years, though both rates remain below the national average. Sand Mountain’s elevation gives Albertville and the surrounding area the coolest climate in the state, though summers still get hot and humid. Marshall County has a higher risk of tornadoes and strong winds than most of the country.
Most of the trees lining the residential streets in Albertville are disidous.
