A walkable neighborhood between Tanoan communities and Sandia Mountains
Homes in Antelope Run sit between the gated Tanoan communities and the neighborhood Albertsons. “It’s walking distance to grocery shopping and Starbucks. It’s also walking distance to the area biking and hiking trails,” says Joe Szklarz, a broker with Q Realty® who has over 30 years of real estate experience. Just east of Antelope Run, trails carve through the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. The neighborhood earns a CAP Index crime score of 2 out of 10—which is considerably lower than the national average of 4—and it’s zoned for schools rated A-minus or better. “It’s in a desirable school district for anywhere from elementary to high school,” Szklarz says.
New traditional homes have distinct Spanish Revival features
The average home price in the neighborhood is about $200,000 higher than that across the Albuquerque metro area. “Antelope Run has a bit of a Tanoan feel to it without being in the gated community,” Szklarz says, referring to the two private Tanoan communities that surround a golf course to the west. In the southern portion of Antelope Run, residential streets lined with maturing trees that shade grassy front lawns weave from east to west. New traditional homes built during the early 1990s have distinct Spanish Revival architecture, with arched entryways flanked by tall columns, warm stucco exteriors and red-tile roofs. Most homes come with paved and shaded patios that overlook green backyards, fetching between $450,000 and $600,000.
Well-rated school pipeline culminates with Advanced Placement opportunities
Children may attend Georgia O’Keeffe Elementary School, which earns an A grade from Niche. They may then enroll in Eisenhower Middle School, which scores an A-minus, before potentially concluding their secondary studies at the A-rated La Cueva High School. The high school offers a long list of Advanced Placement (AP) courses to choose from, including AP Physics 2, AP Music Theory and AP Research. In addition to college credit opportunities, the school maintains a variety of electives, from computer science programming and Computer-Aided Design for architecture to musical theater and a Marine Corps Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps program.
Neighborhood parks and a country club golf course surround Antelope Run
Next to Georgia O’Keeffe Elementary, Prospectors Ridge Park offers a playground, a covered picnic area and panoramic views of the Sandia Mountains, which take on an amber glow at sunset. Farther east of the neighborhood, High Desert Park has a modern playground in a perky shade of lime green, two tennis courts and a basketball court. Walking trails weave through the park and in between the residential areas that surround it, while more intense hiking opportunities are a few miles away at the base of the Sandia Mountains.Antelope Run is immediately east of the Tanoan Country Club, the centerpiece of which is a 27-hole golf course that spills through a gated community. Membership to the club also includes access to 12 tennis courts, six pickleball courts, a junior Olympic-size swimming pool with a diving tank and social events at its clubhouse.
Coffee shops, Mexican restaurants and sports bars on Tramway Boulevard
An Albertsons and a Starbucks sit on the southeast side of the neighborhood, at the corner of Academy Road and Tramway Boulevard. Farther north on Tramway, O’Beans Coffee House is a locally owned café with a Volkswagen-themed interior. Imaginative coffee drinks—like the Azteca, a mocha latte with chili powder—are enjoyed with donuts, scones and bagels in a sage green, Pueblo-style building. Following Tramway Boulevard south of the neighborhood, diners will find Filiberto’s, a casual Mexican eatery, and Howie’s Sports Page, a dimly lit sports bar with flatscreens and pool tables. About 2 miles west of the neighborhood, Cinnamon Sugar & Spice Cafe has a Greek- and Mediterranean-inspired menu with classic American breakfast and New Mexican dishes as well.
Antelope Run is at the corner of Tramway Boulevard and Academy Road
Antelope Run is located at the corner of two major thoroughfares. Tramway Boulevard runs along the eastern side of the neighborhood, connecting to Paseo Del Norte Boulevard in the north and Interstate 40 in the south. The second major thoroughfare in Antelope Run—Academy Road—travels west past the gated Tanoan communities toward Interstate 25. Commuters can use either interstate to reach downtown, which is about 12 miles away. The neighborhood is fairly bikeable, and more biking trails are nearby in the foothills.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
