A Northeast Heights neighborhood close to parks and trails
Cherry Hills is in the Northeast Heights of Albuquerque, an area sought after for its high-performing schools, variety of home options and access to retail. "It has great proximity to shopping, parks and the library," says Mike Haley, an associate broker with Coldwell Banker Legacy. The Sandia Mountains are nearby and provide outdoor enthusiasts with hiking trails and skiing slopes, not to mention the views.

Homes from the '70s and '80s and new construction
Cherry Hills has Pueblo-style, Mediterranean-influenced, contemporary and ranch-style homes, typically built in the 1970s and 1980s. "It's a neighborhood with several different builders," Haley says. There are few listings on the market at one time, but over the year before February 2025, homes north of Harper Drive Northeast sold in the high $300,000s to mid $500,000s. South of Harper, prices are higher at Estates at Academy, a gated community of new-construction homes from the high $800,000s to over $1 million. The CAP Index crime score in Cherry Hills is 2 out of 10, compared to the national average of 4.

Sandia Foothills, the tram and the International Balloon Fiesta
People can go hiking or take advantage of other outdoor activities in the Sandia Foothills. It's about 7 miles from Cherry Hills to Sandia Peak Tramway, the longest aerial tramway in the Americas. In the winter, seasoned skiers with their equipment might take the tram to the Sandia Peak Ski Area rather than driving the long way around and starting at the bottom of the mountain. An event drawing massive crowds to Albuquerque is the International Balloon Fiesta, held in October at Balloon Fiesta Park, about 6 miles northwest of Cherry Hills. The park hosts various events year-round.
