Cielito Lindo offers access to foothill trails and well-rated schools
Cielito Lindo is a small, square-shaped neighborhood with big views of the imposing Sandia Mountains, typical of Albuquerque’s desirable Northeast Heights. “It’s a cluster of quality-built homes with generous lot sizes due to being built in the 1960s and ‘70s, featuring lovely, manicured yards,” says Debbie Hudson, a real estate agent and the owner of Debbie Hudson Real Estate Inc., who has over 20 years of experience. Endless trails in the Sandia foothills are easily accessible, and the neighborhood’s well-rated high school is directly east of the neighborhood. “The popular school district is a big draw. My mother and I used to walk around the track at Eldorado High early in the mornings before school started.”
Ramblers and Minimal Traditional homes make up Cielito Lindo's stock
Curving streets with ranch-style and Minimal Traditional homes from the 1960s and 1970s fill out this small pocket of the Northeast Heights. Sidewalks and mature trees are common throughout the neighborhood, and sunset strolls provide amber views of the rugged Sandia Mountains to the east. Properties in Cielito Lindo range between $300,000 and $470,000, many with fenced backyards and paved, shaded patios; some lots are large enough for storage sheds and in-ground pools.
Eldorado High students can choose between various humanities courses
Students may begin their K-12 journeys at Mitchell Elementary School, which receives a B-minus grade from Niche. They may then move forward to Hoover Middle School, which scores a B-plus, before potentially concluding their secondary studies at A-rated Eldorado High School. High schoolers may choose from nine career and technical education pathways — including architecture and construction, as well as transportation, distribution and logistics — and over 40 extracurricular organizations. Eldorado High also maintains an extensive catalog of humanities courses, including film criticism, Bible literature and introduction to anthropology.
The iconic Dion’s, El Patron’s nostalgic interior and nearby grocers
A Walmart Neighborhood Market is in the northeastern portion of the neighborhood, and a Sprouts Farmers Market is across the intersection. A few popular eateries line the side of Montgomery Avenue opposite the neighborhood. “You could walk to a few restaurants on Montgomery or Juan Tabo, even from the middle of the neighborhood,” says David Stafford, the owner and qualifying broker of 360 Ventures Real Estate. “That neighborhood is more walkable than most.” One of these nearby restaurants is Dion’s, an Albuquerque staple; with restaurants across New Mexico — and a few in Texas and Colorado — the pizza joint’s Montgomery location was one of its first. El Patron offers New Mexican specialties, including chile relleno and carne adovada, and a happy hour that lasts until closing time. The restaurant’s stately Spanish and Pueblo Revival building features arched interior doorways with intricate painted designs above them and dried chilis that hang from the ceiling in bunches. Savoy Bar & Grill is across the street for a more upscale setting.
Desert trails, a pollinator habitat and the Roadrunner Little League
While Cielito Lindo has no official green spaces of its own, Hahn Park is a little over a mile away. With six baseball diamonds, it hosts Roadrunner Little League practices and games. El Oso Grande Park is home to a playground, a soccer field and a pollinator habitat that attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies and hummingbirds. Across Juan Tabo Boulevard, an expanse of sandy desert smattered with colorful wildflowers is known as the Bear Canyon Open Space. The Bear Canyon Trail carves through the natural area, continuing east toward an extensive network of hiking paths in the Sandia Mountain foothills. “It leads up to the foothills,” Stafford says. “You can hop on your bike from any house, jump on a trail and ride that all the way to the foothills.”
Bounded by Comanche Road, Montgomery and Juan Tabo boulevards
Cielito Lindo is bounded by Montgomery Boulevard to the north and Comanche Road to the south, both major thoroughfares that travel west, where they eventually connect with Interstate 25. Juan Tabo Boulevard — one of eastern Albuquerque’s major thoroughfares — runs directly east of the neighborhood and travels south to Interstate 40. Commuters can take either interstate to downtown Albuquerque, which is roughly 10 to 12 miles away. Two ABQ Ride buses service the neighborhood; one route follows Juan Tabo Boulevard, while another stops along Montgomery Boulevard and eventually leads to downtown.
