Foothill Estates is a suburban Albuquerque neighborhood featuring midcentury homes, quiet streets and spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains. It’s located on the southeastern outskirts of the city, about 12 miles from downtown and just a few miles from hiking trails and state parks in the Sandia foothills. “You’ve got close proximity to trails and hiking in the mountains. It’s a great spot for outdoor enthusiasts,” says Realtor Robert Faithe of Keller Williams Realty, a longtime Albuquerque resident. “It’s also conveniently located right on Tramway Boulevard and Interstate 40.”

Foothill Estates was built in the 1960s and '70s. It features a wealth of modest ranch-style homes that offer between 1,000 and 2,000 square feet of living space. These homes feature wide driveways, attached garages and spacious yards that are ideal for gardening, landscaping and backyard barbecues. The streetscape is calm and quiet, and people generally feel safe walking and biking within the neighborhood. Prices range from $260,000 to $330,000 for a single-family home. “It’s a little more affordable here than the neighborhoods closer to the mountains,” Faithe says. Several small townhome complexes are also found here, with prices ranging from $225,000 to $350,000.

Lauren C. Boles Park is the neighborhood’s central outdoor space. It features tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground and walking paths that wind around a large field. Route 66 Open Space, the Hilldale Loop Trail and the Copper Trail are all within a 2-mile radius, ensuring residents are never far from outdoor opportunities. Avid golfers can tee up at the Canyon Club at Four Hills, a private club and golf course with sweeping views of the mountains.

Several shopping plazas are located less than a mile south on Central Avenue, where residents can pick up groceries at Smith’s or Sprouts Farmers Market, or catch the latest Hollywood movie at Icon Cinemas. For everything else, it’s about 3 miles to Walmart, Target, Best Buy and Sam’s Club.
