A quiet suburb that hosts a landmark of television history
Loma del Rey is perhaps best known for providing the backdrop to one of television’s most highly regarded shows. “Walter White’s house from "Breaking Bad" is actually in the neighborhood, so tour buses come through here all the time,” says Realtor Stefani Quintana, who has 35 years of real estate experience with Coldwell Banker. “There’s even active security in the area because of how often people come and try to throw pizzas on that roof.” When the cameras are off, however, this neighborhood is revealed to be a north Albuquerque suburb that inspires generational loyalty with its convenience, quietude and sense of community. “I’ve lived here practically my whole life,” Quintana continues. “I went to Madison Middle School on the south side of the area, and so did my kids. There’s not a lot of turnover with the homes. People live in this neighborhood for a long time and they raise their families here. Residents really look out for each other, so there’s a strong sense of community.”
Midcentury ranch-style homes and Pueblo-inspired modern traditionals
The residential streets of Loma del Rey are densely packed with a variety of home styles. “There are about 1,000 homes throughout the neighborhood,” Quintana says. “Most were built between the ‘60s and ‘70s, and they’re all about the same size. They’re mostly single-story, but there’s no set style, so they’re all unique.” Some are traditional ranch-style homes with brick siding and Craftsman gables, while others are two-story Modern Traditional builds with Southwestern Pueblo-inspired features. Prices usually range from around $200,000 to about $600,000 depending on square footage and number of bedrooms.
Many mature trees can be found throughout Loma del Rey.

Sandia High, which offers an International Baccalaureate Program is rated A and ranks in the Top 20 Public High Schools in all of New Mexico. “I actually graduated from Sandia,” Quintana says. “And for many of us here in the neighborhood, our kids also went to Sandia, which is very cool to experience.”

Trendy eateries and grocery stores within walking distance
Options for groceries and daily household necessities surround Loma del Rey. “There’s a Smith’s, an Albertsons, a Whole Foods and a Sprouts, and the Target is within walking distance of the subdivisions,” Quintana says. “Lots of people will just walk over to Target when they need something.” Popular local restaurants are also close by, including cafes like Rust Is Gold Coffee and trendy eateries with menu offerings that may seem unusual in the high desert. “Poki Poki is right by the neighborhood, and they do incredible sushi and poke bowls,” says Real Estate Broker Austin Wolff of The Lovely Home Company. “I don’t know how they manage it, but they’re the sushi spot I trust the most out here.”

Surface thruways provide access to major area highways
Loma del Rey is a central urban neighborhood, so surface streets are the quickest way to get around. Albuquerque is 9 miles southwest and Santa Fe is 60 miles north. “People here take Montgomery to Interstate 25 and Wyoming to Interstate 40,” Quintana says. “They make it pretty simple to get to Albuquerque or Santa Fe.” These two highways are also the quickest way to get to Albuquerque International Sunport, a 12-mile trip south. ABQ Ride, the city's public bus line, makes stops along Montgomery, Wyoming and Eubank Boulevards.
A small community park and a public city golf course
The small park on the south side of the community provides residents with a splash of curated green space in their high desert neighborhood. “I walk through the Loma del Rey Park every morning,” Quintana says. Golfers will enjoy proximity to Arroyo del Oso, a public 27-hole course.
Tours and movie nights at Loma del Rey Park
Outside of tours of "Breaking Bad’s" most iconic locations, community events are generally on a smaller scale. “Every year, we have a band concert at the middle school,” says Quintana. “There are also nights out at Loma del Rey Park, where we’ll show movies or things like that. Even without a formal gathering, people always throw parties or have picnics.”
