Close to suburban conveniences and the Sandia Mountains

Matheson Park is an East Albuquerque neighborhood surrounded by fast-casual restaurants and community green spaces. “It’s in the Northeastern Heights, which is really well established,” says Shane Dolinski, a real estate agent with Realty One of New Mexico. “You’ve got all the grocery stores and the restaurants, whereas other parts of the city might be newer and still growing into maturity.” In addition to easy access to suburban conveniences, Matheson Park is close to the rugged Sandia Mountain foothills and its extensive network of trails.

Fast-casual chains line the perimeter of Matheson Park. “It’s a great location when it comes to restaurants,” Dolinski says. “There’s a bunch of stuff within walking distance.” Twisters Burgers and Burritos is a local chain that serves 12 different varieties of breakfast burritos and fresh red and green chiles. Other nearby chains include Church’s Texas Chicken, Denny’s, Subway and Einstein Bros. Bagels. A few locally owned restaurants are about a mile west of the neighborhood, such as Ruben’s Grill Mexican Restaurant & Mariscos and Mrs. Sprinkles Ice Cream Parlor. Ruben’s shares a plaza with Keller’s Farm Stores, which procures farm-raised eggs, freshly cut meats and other local items, as well as made-to-order sandwiches. A Walmart Neighborhood Market and an Albertsons Market are even closer.

Mature trees shade front yards and sidewalks line most of the streets in the neighborhood, which was built on a flat expanse of land in front of the towering Sandia Mountains. Many come with generous front- and backyards with room for storage sheds and patios. Prices range between $260,000 and $400,000.

Neighborhood parks and a trail to the Sandia Mountain foothills

The neighborhood’s namesake green space stretches across more than 7 acres, including a playground, a shaded picnic area and a tree trunk that has been chiseled into a statue of a pack of wolf-like creatures howling at the moon. The nearby Ross Enchanted Park has another playground, a swing set and a soccer field. A trail that starts in the Matheson Park neighborhood and weaves through Ross Enchanted Park leads to the easternmost neighborhoods of Albuquerque, which are nestled at the foothills of the Sandia Mountains.
