Thriving academic culture in North Campus
Albuquerque’s North Campus neighborhood includes the University of New Mexico’s graduate law and medical school buildings, with many students and faculty members living nearby. Tom Hornback, the owner of CoyoteABQ Realty Pros, who has helped a number of clients find homes in North Campus, says the proximity to the university is one of its main draws. “You could hit it with a baseball,” he says, explaining how close the home one of his clients purchased was to the law school. “North Campus just has a little bit of panache. You can be edgy but upscale at the same time.” In addition to a lively intellectual community, North Campus is home to several staple local restaurants, as well as the university’s public and historic golf course.
The University off New Mexico is located next to UNM South.

Pueblo-style homes near the UNM graduate campus
The residential portion of the neighborhood surrounds the University of New Mexico (UNM) graduate campus, and more than half of North Campus residents rent their homes. Pueblo-style cottages with thick stucco walls built throughout the 1940s and 1950s range from $360,000 to $475,000. These homes come with shaded front and back patios that look out on generous backyards with conscious xeriscaping. Ranch-style builds from the 1950s fetch between $475,000 and $775,000, depending on the condition of the home and its upgrades. These homes come on lots about a third of an acre in size with room for amenities like hot tubs, playgrounds and pools. Homes in North Campus are shaded by mature trees and separated from the road by sidewalks. “It’s the kind of place where, anywhere you go on a nice morning, you’ll see someone walking their dog in any of the four directions you can look,” Hornback says.

Neighborhood North Course made Albuquerque golf history
Several open green spaces surround the neighborhood, but the largest recreation site nearby is on UNM’s campus—the North Course. Built in 1942, the historic golf course became the first in the country to break the 7,000-yard barrier and hosted Albuquerque’s first professional tournament in 1947, as well as the NCAA championships just three years later. Today, golfers can reserve a tee time to play the same nine holes golf greats such as Arnold Palmer have navigated in the past. Netherwood Park and Summit Park offer a place to enjoy green space in the city, and the latter has a play area and a half-court basketball court, while Bataan Memorial Park honors locals who served in the Philippines during World War II. Immediately north of the neighborhood, the Tennis Club of Albuquerque sells memberships that include access to 13 hard-surface tennis courts, eight lighted courts, tennis socials and clinics, an outdoor swimming pool and a fitness center.

Award-winning burritos and Satellite Coffee in North Campus
Several longtime Albuquerque restaurants lie on the perimeters of the neighborhood, including GOLDEN PRIDE, which has been serving the community with chicken and barbecue ribs since 1972. The restaurant’s burrito—which comes in 12 different breakfast versions alone—has been voted the best in Albuquerque on numerous occasions. Satellite Coffee offers a quiet space to catch up on coursework or reading while savoring locally roasted coffee, artisan pastries and grilled sandwiches.
Another highly rated Mexican joint, an upscale Italian restaurant and a vegan New Mexican eatery line Girard Boulevard on the east side of the neighborhood. Groceries can be found at Smith’s and a Whole Foods store that opened in 2024 less than 2 miles away.

North Campus is near the intersection of interstates 25 and 40
North Campus is positioned between both local and regional thoroughfares. Lomas Boulevard travels west through downtown Albuquerque, which is under 3 miles away, and two ABQ RIDE buses stop along the thoroughfare. University Boulevard connects the neighborhood to the southern portion of the UNM campus. Interstate 25 travels north to Santa Fe and south past Los Lunas to El Paso, traversing the entire state from north to south. On the other hand, Interstate 40 crosses the state from east to west, and both interstates intersect near North Campus.
