Established neighborhood with parks and shopping centers
Homes in North Easterns are tucked between a shopping center with several local dining options and a neighborhood park with a trail leading to the Sandia Mountain foothills. “There’s not much room for building unless you go up toward the mountains,” says Lisa Pino, a broker with Venturi Realty Group and neighborhood resident whose parents and grandparents also owned property there. “Home values have increased, and land is very valued because there’s not a lot of empty space anymore.” In addition to suburban amenities and access to nature, the neighborhood provides a convenient commute to Kirtland Air Force Base and Sandia National Laboratories, two major local employers.
Midcentury Pueblo-style homes priced by condition
Pueblo-style, single-story homes, as well as ranch-style houses with sandy-colored stucco walls built throughout the 1950s make up the architectural landscape of North Easterns, in addition to a few newer builds from the early 2000s. Prices depend on the condition of the home and its upgrades, ranging between $265,000 and $415,000. Lots are spacious enough for shaded patios and recreational vehicle parking, most with views of the rocky Sandia Mountain range in the distance. Front yards with mature trees provide a splash of green amidst bleached sidewalks and otherwise sandy-colored surroundings.

Mexican and New Mexican restaurants surround North Easterns
The northwestern area of the neighborhood consists of a Walmart Supercenter surrounded by smaller stores and fast-food restaurants, which collectively make up the Wyoming Mall shopping center. Los Cuates, locally owned since 1980, maintains one of its three Albuquerque restaurants nearby. Specials include baked carne adovada—roasted for 10 hours—as well as a chile relleno plate made from Anaheim chile peppers stuffed with cheese and fried golden. On the east side of the neighborhood, Papa Felipe’s is going on more than 45 years of crafting New Mexican cuisine in a Pueblo-inspired interior with bunches of dried chiles hanging from the ceiling. Target and Trader Joe’s are about 2 miles west of the neighborhood.

Neighborhood parks and trails facilitate outdoor recreation
Snow Park spreads across almost 9 acres on the south end of the neighborhood, containing a basketball court, a soccer field and a play area. It’s also home to the Snow Park Community Center, which offers before- and after-school childcare. A walking path through the green space continues east as the Embudo Trail, eventually bringing hikers to the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. Hoffman Park, slightly north of the neighborhood, has a playground and green space to accommodate picnics. For more active outings, it offers three tennis courts, four half-basketball courts and a soccer field. Multicolored blooms in the Albuquerque Rose Garden outside of the Tony Hillerman Library are meticulously kept by the Albuquerque Rose Society. Established in 1962, it’s the oldest public rose garden in the city. “You can walk to that and there are nice sitting areas,” Pino says. “I don’t know that it’s a main attraction [in the city], but for the neighborhood, it is.”
Local public schools include Janet Kahn School of Integrated Arts
Local students may attend Bellehaven Elementary School, which receives a C-plus grade from Niche, before enrolling in B-rated Grant Middle School. The Janet Kahn School of Integrated Arts, which scores a C grade, is an alternative for prekindergarten through seventh grade in the neighborhood. Though it is part of Albuquerque Public Schools, it is open to any local student; however, busing is not provided. The school integrates art, music and film programming into its curriculum, and it received upgraded music and art rooms, as well as a modern performing arts space, in 2023 as part of a $43 million renovation project. Sandia High School earns an A grade, offering an International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, an Air Force Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (JROTC) program as well as several academic extracurricular clubs.
