Northeast Heights
Ranch-style homes within walking distance of parks
Buyers will primarily find single-family ranch-style homes with Spanish Mission and Pueblo influences. Many facades have earthy tones, and most were constructed with stucco siding in the mid-20th century. Prices go from $220,000 to $600,000, though outliers fall on both ends of the range. Residential streets typically have sidewalks and driveways to keep parked cars off the road. Most homes sit either right off or within walking distance of a community park.Education through Albuquerque Public Schools
Many children in Northeast Heights are zoned for Comanche Elementary and Cleveland Middle, both with B-plus ratings by Niche. Others begin at Sombra del Monte Elementary, which earns a B-minus, before heading to Madison Middle, with an A-minus. Students then attend A-rated Sandia High, which has an International Baccalaureate program. Despite their zone, students may apply to any school within the Albuquerque Public Schools district. Private education is available in the neighborhood for prekindergarten through eighth grade at A-rated Christ Lutheran School.Activities at city parks, athletic facilities and in the mountains
Locals can choose from an array of recreation spaces, from the Sandia Mountains, 10 miles east, to numerous pocket parks. Most residents can step outside their homes and reach a park within one or two blocks. “There are plenty of walking and biking trails throughout the area, tucked into the neighborhoods,” Chavez says. Hoffman Park provides soccer fields, a playground and basketball, tennis and pickleball courts. About 3 miles south, Los Altos Park has a skating plaza, softball diamonds and an indoor pool. Other facilities, like the Betsy Patterson Pool at Sandia High School and the Arroyo del Oso Golf Course, are also open to the public.Close to shopping and dining east of the river
One of the main draws to Northeast Heights is its proximity to commercial development. Numerous shopping centers operate off Wyoming Boulevard, with big-box options including Walmart, Whole Foods and Smith’s. Residents are also 2 miles from the Coronado Center, a mall with dozens of major retailers. The area is near a variety of dining options, like Scarpas, a popular brick oven pizza spot. “There’s anything from traditional New Mexican and Asian food to some high-end restaurants,” Chavez says.Navigating Albuquerque by car and bus
The neighborhood is within 5 miles of Interstates 25 and 40, the city’s main thoroughfares. Public transportation is available through ABQ Rides buses, which stop along Wyoming Boulevard. Northeast Heights is about 8 miles from the Albuquerque International Sunport for commercial flights.
