Paradise Hills Civic
Early 2000s Pueblo and Spanish Revival homes
Paradise East’s cul-de-sacs are lined with xeriscaped yards full of desert-friendly shrubs and succulents, giving the neighborhood a distinctive Southwestern feel. Pueblo- and Spanish Revival-style homes built in the 1990s and 2000s are common. “Around the golf course are homes that are 30-plus years old, with styles that vary from midcentury modern, Pueblo, ranch and other custom homes,” says Sally Machacek, a lifelong Albuquerque resident and Realtor with Keller Williams Realty; these are mostly traditional ranch-styles, and many have golf course views. A three-bedroom ranch-style home starts at $280,000, while a five-bedroom Spanish Revival-style home can cost $765,000. Pueblo Revival-style townhouses built in the 1970s and ‘80s are found in the neighborhood’s south; a two-bed starts at $240,000, while a three-bed can cost $355,000.Business marketing pathway at Cibola High
Local kids can start school at Seven Bar Elementary, which earns a B from Niche, then continue to the B-minus-rated James Monroe Middle. At the A-minus-rated Cibola High, students can enroll in four Career and Technical Education pathways, including culinary arts and business marketing; kids here can also get involved in nearly 40 student organizations, including the Robotics Club, the MESA Science Club and The Fount literary magazine.Near Lovelace Westside Hospital and Presbyterian Rust Medical Center
Paseo Del Norte Boulevard in the south connects to Interstate 25, 7 miles east, while Coors Boulevard connects to I-40, 7 miles south. The ABQ RIDE bus makes several stops in the neighborhood, and bike lanes and sidewalks make the area bike- and pedestrian-friendly. Lovelace Westside Hospital is in the neighborhood’s north, and Presbyterian Rust Medical Center is on its northwest edge. Albuquerque International Sunport Airport is a 19-mile trip.Petroglyphs in Piedras Marcadas Canyon
Piedras Marcadas Canyon in the neighborhood’s south is part of the 7,200-acre Petroglyph National Monument; the canyon’s two trails go past 400 petroglyphs and scenic mountain views. Smaller pocket parks are spread throughout the neighborhood, including the 7-acre Salida del Sol Park, which has a playground, shade trees and a grassy field. North West Modular Skate Park is a popular spot for teenage skateboarders to practice new tricks. Golfers can play 18 holes at Paradise Hills Golf Course, which is working to become more environmentally friendly by xeriscaping in the roughs and transitioning to battery-powered carts.Creative hot dogs at Urban Hotdog Company
In the neighborhood’s east, Coors Boulevard is home to several retail and restaurant options. Cottonwood Mall has over 100 stores to help residents keep up with the latest fashions. For a quick bite, hungry diners head to the locally owned Urban Hotdog Company, which puts a creative spin on hot dogs with dishes like the banh mi dog and crunchy onion dog. M’tucci’s Moderno is a more upscale option, serving Italian favorites like sausage tortellini and chicken marsala since 2013. Grocery options include Smith’s and Albertsons Market, as well as big-box stores like Costco Wholesale and Walmart.Festivals at Balloon Fiesta Park
Some of Albuquerque’s most popular events are a 7-mile drive away at Balloon Fiesta Park. This park is named for the city’s biggest event, October's nine-day Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, which attracts tens of thousands of people to watch colorful hot air balloons float through the sky. “When you arrive, you’re in the dark, because you’ve got to get up early,” Machacek says. “As the sun’s coming up, the balloons are blowing up, and all of a sudden, they’re in the air. It’s just an incredible experience.” The park hosts other annual events, including PrideFest, the Harvest Wine and Music Festival, and the Latin Explosion Music Festival and Car Show.
