Pueblo Alto is a central Albuquerque neighborhood that is most often referenced in conversation due to its proximity to other, better-known parts of the city. It is located near Nob Hill, for example, a vibrant hotspot that has proved a haven for foodies, and it is west of the International District, famous as the location of the New Mexico State Fair. The southern boundary of the neighborhood is a major surface thruway, lined with popular restaurants and shopping options. However, most of this neighborhood is a surprisingly green urban community that offers residents a quiet reprieve from the bustle of the city and the heat of the New Mexican sun.

Single-story stucco homes and Modern Traditional builds on surprisingly green streets
The grid-ordered residential streets of Pueblo Alto are generally lined with squat mid-century ranch-style homes, with the occasional two-story Modern Traditional sprinkled throughout. The sunbaked sidewalks are often hemmed by patches of drought-resistant greenery and shaded by tall, leafy trees. Nearly all homes have stucco siding, with brick and vinyl few and far between. “Within a quarter mile of the neighborhood, you’ll find million-dollar homes,” says Real Estate Broker Austin Wolff of The Lovely Home Company, who has 10 years of experience in the area. “But in this community, prices typically range between the low-$300,000s and high-$400,000s, so you get the benefit of being near the fancier neighborhoods without the hassle of increased prices.” Depending on the number of bedrooms and the square footage, some homes can rise almost to the $600,000 mark.

Highly rated public schools and the University of New Mexico
Pueblo Alto is zoned for Zia Elementary School, located across Lomas Boulevard, which is rated A-minus by Niche. Jefferson Middle and Albuquerque High both also earn A-minus scores. The neighborhood is also a short drive down Lomas Boulevard from the region’s main destination for higher education. “The University of New Mexico and Nob Hill sort of run together, and Pueblo Alto is right on the northeast end of that,” Wolff says. “There’s a lot of stuff to do on the campus, even if you aren’t a student, so it’s definitely a good area to be in.”

Northeast of Nob Hill, one of the city's most restaurant-laden districts
There is a Sprouts Farmers Market located just across Lomas Boulevard, so residents do not have to travel far to shop for groceries. Daily necessities can be found at the Target on Louisiana Boulevard or at Winrock Town Center, home to over 50 restaurants and retailers. Proximity to some of Albuquerque’s trendiest foodie hotspots also adds to the appeal. “It’s basically the northeast corner of Nob Hill, where there are tons of restaurants and coffee shops,” Wolff says. “Humble Coffee Company is one of my favorites, but there are so many great places along Central Avenue.” Options include classic American diners like Hurricane’s Café and locally owned pubs like Quarter Celtic.
