Silver Hill has prime access to the University of New Mexico
For many, Silver Hill’s sheen comes from its location. This Albuquerque neighborhood is across Central Avenue from the University of New Mexico’s Central Campus. In turn, students fill most of the classic homes around this area. Residents are within walking distance of not just their classes but also an assortment of attractions. “The walkability is fantastic,” says Shane Dolinski, an associate broker with Realty One of New Mexico, who has about 25 years of industry experience. “It’s literally across the street from the University of New Mexico. Lots of restaurants, bars and coffee shops.”

Well-established houses present opportunities for residents and investors
Streets lined with trees guide people around Silver Hill’s collection of homes. Most houses were built from the 1920s through the 1940s, and many are Spanish Colonial, Pueblo and Craftsman style. Properties sell for $200,000 to $500,000 and attract heavy investor interest. Many homes serve as duplexes or triplexes, and more than 90% of residents are renters.

Restaurants and more can be found along Central Avenue
Central Avenue, part of U.S. Route 66, is a major commercial thoroughfare in Albuquerque and serves as Silver Hill’s northern border. Residents can walk to some of the eateries and other attractions on the stretch, like Naruto. “Naruto is a great spot for authentic-style ramen,” Dolinski says. “It’s Japanese-owned.” Yasmine’s Cafe is known for its Mediterranean dishes, as is Gyros down the road. “It’s authentic Greek cuisine,” Dolinski says of Gyros. “The owners are Greek there. So it’s very, very good.” The Copper Lounge is an option for drinks, a speakeasy-style cocktail bar. There’s also a Smith’s grocery store in the area, on Yale Boulevard. The neighborhood’s CAP Index Crime Score is 8 out of 10, significantly higher than the national average of 4. The Bernalillo County Sheriff's Office began proactive patrols in Albuquerque in 2024, supplementing the Albuquerque Police Department.

Roosevelt Park’s disc golf course offers a competitive outlet
The hilly Roosevelt Park takes up a southern pocket of Silver Hill. This 14-acre space has plenty of shade, thanks to a mix of towering elm trees that double as obstacles for disc golfers. “Roosevelt Park is a pretty cool park,” Dolinski says. “It has one of the first 18-hole disc golf courses in the state.” Roosevelt has a playground as well. Milne Stadium borders Roosevelt Park and serves as the site for some Albuquerque Public School football and track and field events.
