Skies West encompasses quiet living in northwest Albuquerque
Situated in the city’s northwestern corner, Skies West offers a laid-back setting away from Albuquerque’s more active downtown district and east side. “We don’t have all the tall buildings and developments like they have over there, and it’s a lot less congested,” says Brenda Fernandez, owner of U-Neat Creations and a longtime resident of the neighboring Seville community. However, Skies West's convenient location along Usher Boulevard allows for quick grocery trips or a bite to eat at a nearby restaurant. Marcadas Canyon and Paradise Hills Golf Course are just a few miles away for outdoor pursuits.

Community parks, hiking trails and a nearby golf course keep residents active
Paradise Skies Park includes a trail loop that circles open green space, tennis courts and a playground. Fernandez says A Park Above, 2 miles northeast, is a popular nearby spot. “It’s great and is geared to all abilities with wheelchair swings and more,” she says. Piedra Marcadas Canyon offers hiking trails with views of the hilly desert terrain. Visitors can also spot native wildlife and hundreds of Indigenous art and symbols at Petroglyph National Monument. Paradise Hills Golf Course is just north of the canyon on Country Club Lane Northwest. “My family and I like to frequent the golf course because it’s public and so pretty,” Fernandez says.

Housing styles with Spanish influences fill the neighborhood
New housing developments border Skies West to the north, and open sandy terrain frames its southern side. Tight residential streets run in between, where ranch styles and two-story homes, many with Spanish influences like stucco exteriors and clay-tile roofs, intermingle with Pueblo Revival designs. Build dates in the neighborhood span the late 1990s into the early 2000s, and prices range from $235,000 to $400,000, depending on size and condition.
Skies West homes mostly have small, simple front yards with driveways and garages.

Usher Boulevard and Cottonwood Mall feature local dining and major retail
Usher Boulevard has family-owned spots like Ironwood Kitchen and M’tucci’s Moderno, known for authentic Italian food and happy hour. Residents pick up groceries from Walmart Supercenter and El Paisano Market, where the corridor intersects with Southern Boulevard Southeast. Cottonwood Mall, 4 miles away, offers a more robust retail selection. Though Uptown is the city’s main shopping drag, traffic backups on bridges crossing the Rio Grande are common occurrences. “The traffic is frustrating,” Fernandez says. “Unless it’s something important, most people just stick to shopping on this side of the river.”
M'Tucci's Moderno is s stylish and very popular restaurant with a full bar and a great reputation.
Skies West residents head to Walmart to stock up on groceries and more.

Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta is a city highlight
“The city is known for the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta,” Fernandez says. “It’s the busiest time of year in the city.” Held over a week in early October, throngs of onlookers come to Balloon Fiesta Park to see more than 500 hot air balloons take to the skies. Food trucks and a rotating list of musical performances are also a part of the celebration.
