The revitalization process of Trumbull Village
Trumbull Village is part of the International District, located near the massive event area of the Fairgrounds Addition in Albuquerque. Like many other communities around it, Trumbull Village has struggled with slightly higher crime than the rest of the city, and many residential sections require repair. However, residents of Trumbull Village and surrounding neighborhoods have worked with the city to make a concentrated effort toward revitalization. "The city coined the term 'International District' because, yes, it is diverse, but also to help give it a different image as they work to revitalize the area," says Racquel Gurule, a Realtor with Keller Williams who's lived in Albuquerque for 25 years. "The neighborhoods still struggle with crime, but it's certainly getting better, and the communities care about each other."

Remodeling midcentury homes and financial programs from the city
As Trumbull Village enters a period of revitalization, many homes are being bought as investment properties. Midcentury ranch-style homes and Pueblo Revival styles are most common in the neighborhood. Housing that has yet to be renovated can sell as low as $150,000 to $220,000, while fully remodeled homes can sell between $350,000 and $500,000. "The city has a first-time homebuyer program where, if you buy a home in designated districts, they'll help you financially. Usually, you can get an entire percentage drop in the mortgage payment," Gurule says. "It encourages people to purchase in the area and fix up the homes, so there are a lot of flips in the area."

Hopping on the interstate or taking a RapidRide bus into the city
The neighborhood is bordered by U.S. Route 66, also called Central Avenue. Residents can follow Route 66 or Louisiana Boulevard to connect to Interstate 40. "Our RapidRide buses have branched out to the International District, so there are a ton of stops. It makes it much easier to get around the city," Gurule says. The Albuquerque International Sunport, which is served by several commercial airlines, is only 7 miles south of the community. Gurule mentions that the mountains help muffle any noise pollution. The closest general medical care is at Presbyterian Kaseman Hospital, 2 miles north, while the New Mexico VA Health Care System, just south of the neighborhood, serves veterans and their families.

"The International District has some of the best Mexican food in the city, those authentic little places where you have to do a tequila shot with your friends," Gurule says. Los Olivos Mexican Restaurant is a community favorite for its birria tacos, welcoming with a down-home atmosphere and color-splashed walls. Remodeling local parks, activity at the community center and central playgrounds
While several green spaces spread throughout the community, most need maintenance and general repair. Trumbull Village and other surrounding communities in the International District have pushed the city to spread revitalization to the parks, starting with Phil Chacon Park. In late spring of 2025, Phil Chacon Park reopened with a completely renovated design, including but not limited to new turf on the sports fields, additional walking paths, art installations and a community garden. Many will head to Cesar Chavez Community Center to play pickleball or basketball and use the fitness center, and the Trumbull Children's Park is centrally located off Trumbull Avenue.
