Victory Hills is an Albuquerque neighborhood with a convenient location
Bordered by Central Avenue, the University of New Mexico, Central New Mexico Community College and the Albuquerque International Sunport, Victory Hills gives residents a convenient location at a relatively accessible price. This Albuquerque neighborhood is minutes from multiple city landmarks, yet homes here routinely sell for less than $400,000. “This is where you’ll find more affordable housing,” says Shane Dolinski, an associate broker with Realty One of New Mexico with about 25 years of industry experience.
The area's compact homes present a good value
Pueblo-style houses built in the mid-20th century dominate this neighborhood. These homes line a grid of mostly residential streets, organized neatly on lots between one-tenth and one-fifth of an acre. Floor plans in Victory Hills average 718 square feet, less than half the national average. However, that comes with prices from $235,000 to $500,000. The neighborhood's average of roughly $295,000 is less than some other nearby neighborhoods.
Central Avenue’s restaurants and shops are within quick reach
Victory Hills is just about a mile from Central Avenue, which is part of Route 66 and offers an eclectic variety of eateries, shops and more. Frontier is a mainstay on this stretch, open for over 50 years and known for its plate-sized cinnamon rolls. The gyros and other Middle Eastern fare at Sahara are popular, too, and other businesses on Central range from barbershops to antique stores. A Smith’s grocery store is even closer on Yale Avenue. Residents don’t have to leave the neighborhood for Differential Brewing Co., which has been open since 2021. “Differential’s good,” Dolinski says. “It’s a local brewery, and they also have food there.”
Hyder Park comes alive with music and food
Located just outside Victory Hills, Hyder Park serves as a community gathering spot. The space hosts Park Sing on periodic Saturdays, a series of communal music gatherings where attendees can participate with provided sheet music. Tasty Tuesdays takes place on Tuesday evenings from May to September and features food trucks, yoga and live music.
Area schools offer wide-ranging extracurriculars
The Albuquerque Public Schools maintains a B-plus grade on Niche. “I think you have high parental involvement in this area,” Dolinski says of the school system. Students in Victory Hills go to A-minus-rated Bandelier Elementary, where they can join a journalism club that produces a newspaper. Wilson Middle carries a C rating and has basketball, soccer, volleyball, and track and field teams. Students may go to the A-minus-rated Albuquerque High or B-rated Highland High based on their address, and both offer esports and poetry clubs. Victory Hills’ A-minus-rated Mission Achievement and Success Charter School Yale Campus provides an alternative option for prekindergarten through 12th grade and emphasizes college preparedness.
The University of New Mexico and Central New Mexico Community College campuses are within 2 miles of Victory Hills. The schools have more than 42,000 combined students.
Puerto del Sol and Hyder Park give residents close access to outdoor recreation
The nearby Puerto del Sol is a public, city-owned golf course known partly for its well-kept condition. The circuit has nine holes and is home to Albuquerque's only lighted driving range. Dog walkers and picnickers take advantage of Hyder Park and the shade its tall trees offer. “That’s definitely a pretty nice park,” Dolinski says. “People go there for all their outdoor stuff.”
Commuters are close to the ABQ RIDE bus and Interstate 25
The local ABQ RIDE bus system in Victory Hills has many stops, most clustered along Yale and Girard avenues. Gibson Boulevard provides a direct shot to Interstate 25, about a mile away. I-25 is a route for the 65-mile trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico’s capital. The Albuquerque International Sunport is just outside Victory Hills and has nonstop flights to more than 30 destinations.
