People move to Aledo, Texas, for more space and greener pastures. A country suburb of over 6,000, Aledo is conveniently located 20 miles from Fort Worth and Weatherford. “It was originally an agricultural community, the last railroad stop before you got into Fort Worth,” says Adrianne Holland, a 20-year resident and broker associate with Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s. As the oil boom of the 1950s propelled rapid expansion in the DFW Metroplex, Aledo saw unprecedented growth with the arrival of new houses, schools and storefronts. Today, Niche rates Aledo the No. 1 best place to live in Parker County for its extensive lawns, short commute times and new developments on the horizon.
Locals move to Aledo for large plots of land and a tight-knit community.

Traditional houses and townhomes with large lots
Houses are located within several subdivisions alongside Farm-To-Market Road 1187, which runs north and south through the suburb. Manufactured homes sit on the west side by the post office and cost $100,000 to $200,000, while larger townhomes in gated communities run between $400,000 and $600,000. While most brick and stone houses feature traditional architecture, home styles vary between ranch-style, Tudor and modern farmhouse aesthetics. New two-to-three-story homes with one-acre lots are being built on the northwestern end for $600,000 to $900,000. A few 4,000-square-foot custom homes with heated pools and three-car garages are valued between $1-$1.8 million.

Aledo diners, drive-ins and dives
Most retail is centrally located in the historic downtown by Aledo Trail and Maverick Street. There are clothing boutiques, home goods stores and med spas, as well as farm and feed stores and floral shops. The Aledo Diner is a local favorite that serves breakfast and brunch specials alongside a beautifully painted wall mural in its dining room, while Yesterdays Sandwich Shop serves fresh deli sandwiches on homemade sourdough bread that it also offers by the loaf. A Brookshire’s 4 miles north by the highway offers groceries.
Small businesses and local boutiques bring charm to Downtown Aledo.
Aledo lacks public transportation options, so most residents are car-dependent and use the winding roads and trails to navigate the countryside. They also rely on Interstate 20 for trips to Weatherford and Fort Worth. “It’s really a bedroom community,” Holland says. “They drive into Fort Worth for all of the major events.” Texas Health Willow Park is the closest 24-hour urgent care 6 miles west. The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport is 45 miles northeast.

Environmental factors
The area is prone to grass fires due to the high temperatures and the rural land, which is why burning ordinances have been put into place. Parker County has a volunteer fire department based on the north side of the community.
