Located just minutes away from Auburn, Algona provides its residents with classic homes and proximity to plenty of amenities. Amber Volin, Real Estate Agent with Dove Realty, Inc, says, “It’s a good community, it’s quiet, and has an older feel.” She continues that “the location is one of the big draws, you’re only two minutes from the freeway and can get to different parts of King and Pierce counties.” The city is split between residential pockets and stretches of industrial and business sectors on much of the eastern side, including Boeing and Safeway.

Algona was officially incorporated as a city in 1955, and prospective residents can still find some homes in the city from that time, as midcentury ramblers with enclosed garages are peppered through the residential areas, many of which sit on oversized lots. Many of the homes in the area were built from the 50s into the late 1980s and are typically priced lower than homes in neighboring Auburn, ranging from $400,000 up to the mid $500,000s. There’s plenty of new growth throughout the area as well, with new homes in turnkey condition available for buyers. If you want to build your own dream home, there are several lots for sale just waiting for your personal touch.

Residents with children in Algona will likely be enrolled in schools in the Auburn School District, with many students starting their education at Alpac Elementary School, which offers preschool services in addition to special education classes for students. Many students will then attend Olympic Middle School and Auburn Riverside High School afterward. Auburn Riverside High School has received an A- rating from Niche, boasting a 92 percent graduation rate in the 2021-2022 school year and offering various honors classes and Career and Technical Education classes for its student body.

For weekend fun with the kids, parents can head to John Matchett Memorial Park, which features a playground and open fields that are perfect for a game of catch or tag. Residents are also within close proximity to many of the parks throughout Auburn and other surrounding communities, including Five Mile Lake Park if you want to spend the day fishing or relaxing lakeside and the expansive 21-acre Roegner Park. If you want to reach your daily exercise goal, head to Les Gove Park, which features several walking trails, a Bocce court and a gymnasium with a climbing wall. Lake Tapps is also just under 6 miles away, a popular spot for swimming or having a lakeside barbecue with friends or family.

Algona also provides residents with proximity to many of the area’s shops and dining. There are plenty of options for some retail therapy at The Outlet Collection Seattle, an expansive shopping center with several department stores and eateries for a quick meal. You’re also just minutes away from downtown Auburn, with many restaurants along Main Street at your fingertips. However, if you don’t want to head downtown, you have choices nearby, whether you’re chowing down on some ribs and chili from Jack’s BBQ & Steakhouse or watching your favorite team play at Coco Joe’s.

Commuters in the city have convenient access to the Washington 167, making getting around the area a breeze. Algona provides convenient access to many amenities, with the slower pace of suburbia waiting for you at home.

GreatSchools: The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
