Minimal Traditional homes in Airport Tract
Different from earlier Craftsman tracts, ranch-style homes here were built in a Minimal Traditional style, and they mostly have plain facades. Lots are usually less than a quarter acre, but backyards are sizeable with some trees. While driveways are narrow, they often end in one-car garages. Listings start at $700,000 but can reach $1.4 million with more updates. Listings aren’t too frequent, though. “People tend to stay here a long time,” Kang says. “Because of that, single-family homes are coveted and highly sought after. If a house goes on the market and it’s priced well, you’ll probably have 60 people at the open house and 20 buyers competing for the listing.”Walkable to Almansor Park
Almansor Park is the largest and most popular park in the city, and it’s about a mile from Airport Tract. This green space has baseball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, basketball courts and an indoor gymnasium. Alhambra Golf Course is also here, a public course with 18 holes and a practice facility. Marshall Community Park, a smaller space, is about a half mile from the neighborhood and has a playground and picnic area.Standout education with Baldwin Elementary, San Gabriel High
Baldwin Elementary is about 2 miles north of the neighborhood and serves kindergarten through eighth grade. Niche gives it an A-minus and ranks it among the top 50 standout elementary schools in California, ahead of over 1,100 others. Just north of this campus, San Gabriel High scores an A and ranks in Niche’s top 15 standout high schools in the Los Angeles area. Its football team won the division title in 2022, the first one in school history. California State University, Los Angeles, is a public university about 5 miles west of the neighborhood.Next to Interstate 10
Airport Tract has sidewalks and bike-friendly roads, but most people drive around Alhambra. Traffic can back up during the day but especially during rush hour. Valley Boulevard runs along the neighborhood’s north side and has a bus route, Alhambra Community Transit’s Green Line. Interstate 10 is just south. It goes about 10 miles west to downtown LA and connects east to San Gabriel, Rosemead and El Monte. Though Alhambra no longer has an airport, Los Angeles International Airport is about 30 miles southwest of the neighborhood.Authentic Chinese food along Valley Boulevard
Alhambra is known for its Chinese food, and Airport Tract is close to some of the city’s favorite spots. Just north of the neighborhood, Top Island Seafood Restaurant has dim sum, and Savoy Kitchen has everything from Hainan chicken to curries. Cali Mart and 168 Market are Asian grocers nearby, and Rosemead Place Shopping Center is a few miles east with department stores. Downtown Alhambra is another popular shopping and dining district north of the neighborhood. It’s also the center for city events such as Main Street Market and the St. Patty’s Day Pub Crawl.
