Alhambra Tract
Neighborhood in Alhambra, California
Los Angeles County 91801
Early-20th-century ranch-style homes
Much of Alhambra Tract was developed during the 1910s and 1920s by Benjamin Davis Wilson, who once owned all of Alhambra. Ranch-style designs with Craftsman and Spanish elements are common, as are landscaped yards and tree-lined streets. Lots tend to be moderate, offering enough outdoor space for small gardens or play areas. Single-family homes generally sell for $900,000 to $1.3 million, while multi-unit properties can go for considerably more, depending on their size. The neighborhood has a Cap Index crime score of 4-out-of-10, which matches the national average.Plots at Winston Smoyer Community Garden
Local green space is concentrated on the south side of the neighborhood. Many residents maintain plots at Winston Smoyer Memorial Community Garden, one of the largest such gardens in the San Gabriel Valley. Alhambra Golf Course is just across Mission Road — the well-maintained public course features 18 holes and a driving range. Almansor Park borders the golf course and features tennis courts, soccer fields and playgrounds. It’s also just a 20-mile drive from the neighborhood to wilderness areas in the San Gabriel Mountains, which feature extensive trails and impressive views of the valley.Alhambra's impressive public schools
Alhambra Tract falls under the Alhambra Unified School District, which has an impressive A grade on Niche. Granada Elementary School, which serves students through eighth grade, has a B grade, while San Gabriel High School has an A. San Gabriel High offers dual enrollment classes through nearby East Los Angeles College.Alhambra's famous Lunar New Year Festival
The Alhambra Farmers Market is held every Sunday morning on 2nd Street in downtown Alhambra. Downtown is also the location of the city’s famed Lunar New Year Festival, which is held in February and draws visitors from all over Los Angeles. The festival features live music, performances and a wide array of crafts and food vendors.Getting around the San Gabriel Valley
LA Department of Transportation Bus routes along Mission Road and Main Street connect the neighborhood to Alhambra, San Gabriel, and other cities in the San Gabriel Valley. It’s about 2 miles from Alhambra Tract to Interstate 10, the nearest major freeway. Downtown Los Angeles is 10 miles away by car, while Pasadena is less than 5. It’s 20 miles to Burbank Airport and 30 miles to Los Angeles International — drive times to either location can vary dramatically depending on traffic.Right off Main Street
While Alhambra Tract itself is almost entirely residential, it's within a 1-mile drive of shopping centers in both Alhambra and San Gabriel, as well as supermarkets like 99 Ranch Market and Sprouts. Main Street runs along the north side of the neighborhood and is lined with a wide variety of shops and restaurants. Head just a few blocks east on Main Street, and locals will find themselves in the center of downtown Alhambra, which is home to many of the city’s top restaurants, along with the local movie theater. The area is known for its Asian cuisine, but Alhambra Tract’s most famous restaurant is probably the longstanding Bun’n Burger diner, which has been serving up fresh burgers for over 75 years. “The food is definitely one of the best parts of living in Alhambra,” says Tran. “There’s just so much to choose from.”
