Suburban neighborhood stretched out over hills
To the west of Allentown, the neighborhood of Ancient Oaks straddles the line of rural and modern living. Part of Ancient Oak showcases its cornfield origin, with fields to the southeast, but most of the neighborhood has slowly grown over the years with twisting roads and cul-de-sacs, making Ancient Oaks the picture of suburbia. “There used to be rolling fields before the area were all taken up by houses,” says Joanna LaFaver, a Realtor with Keller Williams Real Estate and lifelong resident of the Lehigh Valley. “The fields may be gone but the hills are still there.” Ancient Oaks was built in stages, with portions of the neighborhood divided between Lower Macungie and Macungie. However the area is more classified under Allentown, with zip codes placing the neighborhood within Allentown.

There are also a few condos as well, within the same price range as the home styles. The Four Seasons at Farmington is a 55-plus-only community located within the neighborhood. Most homes are ranch-style or Cape Cod, beginning around $380,000 and reaching around $610,000. Homes here tend to sit closer together, and come with a monthly fee ranging between $335 and $379.

There are not a lot of huge corporations. Companies like Air Products employ a lot of people as well as At&t and Verizon.

Stores hardly ever get renovated, so most are poorly maintained and outdated. Most of the stores are everyday chains in shopping centers that have infuriating parking lots. Most mom-and pop shops are especially dilapidated and spoil any potential of small-town charm.
