The 400-acre lake has no public boat ramps and is accessible only to the area's residents. Lake Howell's depth varies from three to 24 feet in some places, and most of the community HOAs allowing lake access recommend that boaters consult the lake's topography to avoid sand bars. With this in mind, boaters and anglers can safely fish for largemouth bass and bluegills swimming around the lake. Public water and fishing access are available just north of Lake Howell at Red Bug Lake Park, which also features a playground, tennis courts, soccer fields and a boardwalk where locals can enjoy views of the surrounding wetlands.
