Greentree Village, a small slice of East Amarillo off Fritch Highway, earns its name from the Greentree Village Apartments. These apartments account for most of the neighborhood, and the rest of the area has industrial buildings and less than a dozen family homes. The community, consisting of only six residential streets, is small enough that it has no parks, shops or schools. Instead, these resources are shared with surrounding neighborhoods like Eastridge, Mesa Verde and North Amarillo. Even with this lack of infrastructure, Greentree Village has accessibly priced homes on low-populated streets, making it appealing for homebuyers looking for some privacy without buying extra land. “Most of the people around here are our renters, but there are a few locals who stick around,” says Diya Carrillo, an assistant property manager at Greentree Village Apartments. “I think they like that it’s off the beaten path, since we’re really the only thing around.”
Greentree Village offers apartments primarily to the residents that live there.

Close to Amarillo International Airport, without the noise
Fritch Highway runs on the south side of Greentree Village. While this is the area’s major thoroughfare, crashes are so common that local media has also dubbed Fritch Highway one of the most dangerous roads in Amarillo. The highway also connects to U.S. Route 66, also known as East Amarillo Boulevard. The road is the most direct route to downtown Amarillo, 4 miles away. Greentree Village is also 7 miles from the Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. “Even though the airport is close, it’s not noisy,” says William Wheeler, an Amarillo resident and Realtor with Fathom Realty. “The closest neighborhood to the airport is Eastridge, but even there, there’s not a ton of noise.” For locals who would prefer a public transportation option, Amarillo City Transit’s Route 23 operates around the Eastridge neighborhood and links to the rest of Amarillo.
Traditional East African cuisine in Eastridge
Due to its small size, Greentree Village has no restaurants or shops. These amenities can be found in other nearby communities like Eastridge, which has a few international grocery stores like Happy Market on East Amarillo Boulevard. Eastridge also has two Somali restaurants—Somali African Safari Restaurant on East Amarillo Boulevard and Somali Restaurant Bulsho on Fritch Highway. Both restaurants serve halal dishes like beef, rice, salad and tea.

Eastridge Park is an escape from the heat
Greentree Village has no community parks, so other neighborhoods like Eastridge provide recreation options. Eastridge School Park on Northeast 16th Avenue is the largest nearby option, and it has a wading pool and some shade trees. Eastridge also has many houses of worship that are attended by people throughout East Amarillo, including Eastridge Baptist Church on Evergreen Street and the Burmese Muslim Community of Amarillo on Aster Street. Wat Phouttha Samakkheetham Buddhist Temple on North Eastern Street and the Catholic Diocese of Amarillo are both on the north side of Greentree Village in North Amarillo.

Family homes built next to Greentree Villages rentals
Greentree Village Apartment Complex accounts for most of the small neighborhood’s housing options. Outside of the apartment complex, there are a few single-family ranch-style homes and bungalows in the surrounding area. These houses are built alongside the empty lots and industrial buildings on Northeast 24th Avenue and Fritch Highway. One of these family homes can sell for between $150,000 and $200,000. Because the area is mostly rentals and investment buildings, there is little residential infrastructure around these properties. Sidewalks, trees and gardens are all few and far between. Like the rest of Amarillo, the neighborhood is exposed to high winds, storms and flooding throughout the year.

Amarillo Schools’ decorated student orchestra
Eastridge Elementary School, Travis Middle School and Palo Duro High School are all within the Amarillo Independent School District (ISD). Each of these schools has a B grade on Niche. Students in Amarillo ISD can pick up an instrument in fifth grade to join the school district’s award-winning orchestra program. The orchestra includes students from all Amarillo middle and high schools, and student musicians consistently attend statewide competitions. Eastridge is 7 miles from Amarillo College, which Niche named one of the top community colleges in Texas.
Eastridge Elementary celebrates a low student to teacher ratio.
