Established neighborhood in a prime location in south Amarillo
When Puckett was originally developed in the early 1970s, it was one of the most popular suburbs of Amarillo. And many things that made the neighborhood desirable then still hold true today. Its location just south of Interstate 40 means easy access to the entire city. It's also within a 5-mile radius of numerous restaurants, national chain stores and the city’s medical facilities. Puckett is part of the highly rated Amarillo Independent School District, and the zoned elementary and high schools are in the neighborhood. And then there's the houses themselves. “You get more square footage for your money in Puckett," says Sabre Cofer, a Realtor with EXP Realty with nearly 15 years of real estate Amarillo experience. “They are just beautiful, classic homes that are larger because that’s how they were built back then. I think it will always be a solid, established neighborhood.”

Ranch-style and bungalow houses from the 1970s
Wide streets curve through the neighborhood, past mature trees, and sidewalks allow residents to easily navigate the community by foot. They can also take advantage of the bike lanes on Fulton Drive. Ranch-style houses, Craftsman builds and the occasional Colonial Revival feature well-manicured front lawns, fenced-in backyards and attached two-car garages. Houses range from 2,000 square feet to 4,000 square feet, and with larger-sized properties, lots are a bit more spacious. “A lot of these homes are coming on the market renovated, while others are coming on the market that have already been flipped,” says Chancy Via, the owner of Palo Duro Real Estate, who has sold properties in the neighborhood. Prices range from $160,000 to $350,000 for those needing a little bit of work, while recently renovated or well-kept homes will go from $400,000 to $550,000.

Less than 5 miles from Northwest Texas Healthcare System
The neighborhood's location between Coulter and Bell streets gives commuters two options to get to I-40. About 3 miles north on Coulter Street is the Northwest Texas Healthcare System, a nearly 500-bed teaching hospital. Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport offers flights from American, Southwest and United Airlines and is about 15 miles east via I-40. The city offers the ACTransit bus service, with a handful of stops along Southwest 45th Avenue, including a stop in the Southwest Amarillo Library.
Next to John Stiff Memorial Park
Puckett School Park, located behind the elementary school, is a tree-lined green space encircled by a paved walking trail. The park has a community playground, hard-surfaced basketball courts and field for pick-up or recreational soccer matches. Just south of Southwest 45th Avenue is John Stiff Memorial Park, a large regional city-operated park featuring playgrounds and walking trails that provide views of McDonald Lake, where anglers can cast their lines. The park is also home to a skate park and the Amarillo National Tennis Center, which offers rentable indoor and outdoor court space for tennis or pickleball.

Nearby United Supermarkets for weekly groceries
Residents can make grocery runs at the United Supermarkets in Bell Plaza, just south of the neighborhood. The shopping center features a Dollar Tree, a pet supply store, fast food outlets and banks. A bit further west are Target, Best Buy, T.J. Maxx and the Westgate Mall. Fast food and chain restaurants line Coulter Street, including Chick-fil-A and Buffalo Wild Wings. This area is also home to local spots like the Drunken Oyster, which has a full absinthe bar, and Teddy Jack’s Armadillo Grill, known for its eclectic Amarillo-themed decorations.
Book clubs at the Southwest Amarillo Library
Across Southwest 45th Avenue, the Southwest Amarillo Library provides a nearby space for learning and community gathering. The library hosts book clubs for all ages and summer reading programs. Downtown Amarillo, about 7 miles north, provides more entertainment options like an Amarillo Sod Poodles minor league baseball game or an Amarillo Ballet show at the Globe-News Center for Performing Arts. City Center Amarillo, a non-profit organization, hosts multiple events throughout the year, such as Amarillo Market on Polk Street on Saturdays in the summer and Jazztober Fest each October on the historic Bivins House lawn.
One of the windiest cities in the country
Due to persistent low atmospheric pressure and vast open space, Amarillo is one of the windiest cities in America, with average wind gusts above 13 mph. The city also experiences temperatures above 100 in the summer and below freezing in the winter. It's susceptible to extreme weather, including severe thunderstorms, tornadoes and flooding. While Puckett is not on the floodplain, FEMA does encourage all Texas homeowners to purchase flood insurance.

The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
