Riverside Quad Cities village with a neighborly feel
Just a few miles downriver from the Quad Cities, Andalusia is a quiet village known for its tight-knit community and outdoor recreation. “We’re a small community. Everybody is pretty friendly out here,” says Shelly Hoffman, a longtime resident and the village clerk for Andalusia. “We call it ‘one village, one family,’ and that’s how we try to portray ourselves. When there are storms out here, and people have damage, you see all the neighbors coming out to help them.” Situated on the banks of the Mississippi River, this small village of approximately 1,100 people offers a neighborly spirit that is hard to find in larger cities. When residents aren’t visiting with friends and family in town, they’re often boating or fishing on the river, hiking at nearby nature preserves or skiing at the local ski area. Outdoor recreation is abundant around Andalusia, giving residents plenty of options for how to spend their free time.
Quaint ranch-style homes in the village
Most homes in Andalusia are brick ranch-style houses on good-sized lots. Some new traditional houses in the village also have a mix of brick and vinyl siding on the exterior. Most homes have built-in garages and yards with plenty of room to play a game of catch or have a backyard cookout. Mature trees line the quiet neighborhood streets, casting shade throughout the community and adding natural beauty. Hoffman says homes in the village typically sell quickly. A three-bedroom house in Andalusia can cost anywhere from $130,000 to $250,000. Four-bedroom homes in the village can cost between $300,000 and $450,000.

Natural beauty in northwestern Illinois
Residents have several recreation opportunities nearby. “We’re a river town, so people go out on the water and fish. They like to have bonfires. People like to go to Snowstar to go skiing. They pretty much spend time outside,” says Hoffman. Loud Thunder Forest Preserve is a county nature preserve about 8 miles west of the village. The 1,480-acre preserve is home to Lake George, which is popular for fishing and boating. The preserve has two hiking trails — a 2-mile trail and a 12-mile trail. Other trails are available for mountain biking and horseback riding. Visitors can make the trip an overnight one at one of the 140 campsites in the preserve. Winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy visiting Snowstar, a ski area just 2.5 miles from town. The park has 15 skiing and snowboarding trails and a tubing hill. Residents can also visit Snowstar during the warmer months for disc golf and paintball. Within the city, Andalusia Lions Club Park has a basketball court, softball field, playground and skate park. Residents can also put a boat in at the public boat landing on the river at the end of Second Street.
