Wooded streets with proximity to downtown Ann Arbor
With beloved local parks and a central elementary school, Arborview has a warm community feel and a family-friendly atmosphere. "It's perfect," says Kay Hurst, a longtime resident and founder of Aunt Kay's Home-Baked Cookies and Breads. "It's a wonderful group of people — a mixture of families with kids and empty nesters like us — and even as people move in and out, that atmosphere doesn't change." The Arborview neighborhood sits just west of downtown Ann Arbor, but thanks to the Miller Nature Area, it has a more wooded feel than neighborhoods like Burns Park or Old West Side. "We can sit at our window and watch deer prance around," Hurst says. "And yet we can also walk into downtown."
Smaller homes have a neighborly feel
Arborview is the kind of neighborhood where driveways end in basketball hoops, and neighbors put little lending libraries in their front yards. Curving residential streets are lined with mature trees, and Adirondack chairs sit on front lawns, ideal for watching the kids play in the front yard. Homes here tend to stay under 1,500 square feet and come in an array of ranches, bungalows and Cape Cods. Prices start around $350,000 and can get up to $600,000 for newer renovations or closer proximity to downtown. Homes often included detached garages, typical of early to mid-1900s construction. There's some newer construction going in on the east side, offering larger homes at prices around $800,000 to over $1 million. Clearly marked crosswalks create safe pathways for kids to walk to school, and an active neighborhood watch helps maintain a CAP Crime Index Score of 2 out of 10, which is lower than the national average of 4.
Though most Bungalows in Arborview have vinyl or wood siding, some still have original aluminum.
Though uncommon some Arborview homes opt for ivy or rain gardens instead of front lawns.

Nature trails and skating rinks
The Miller Nature Area is a 22-acre forested space with meandering unpaved trails. It's a hidden spot used mainly by the surrounding residents, so it's common to see familiar faces along the trails. Despite being a mile away from city activity, Miller is home to deer, birds and butterflies. Other notable parks just outside the neighborhood include Veteran's Park, one of the busiest recreational hubs in Ann Arbor. Justin Ham, an associate broker working in southeast Michigan with the Ham Realty Group, recommends this park: "They've got a state-of-the-art skate park, ice skating, several lighted baseball and softball fields, and a great hill for sledding in the wintertime."

All kids are zoned to finish at Skyline High, rated A-plus.

Pick up fresh-baked pastries on morning walks
One of the most beloved businesses in Arborview is Hurst's bakery. Hurst, who has lived with her family in Arborview for more than 40 years, turned her lifelong love of baking into a business and now holds a pop-up market in her yard every Saturday. "Dog walkers and families come around and pick up breakfast — and people always say how cool it is to have a bakery within the neighborhood," she says. "I love being that." She also offers online ordering and is a go-to caterer for community events and church gatherings. Over along Dexter Avenue, Q Bakehouse & Market is another local favorite, with Korean baked goods and savory dumplings.
