Eberwhite's historic and established homes near downtown
Lush parks and varying home styles make Eberwhite one of Ann Arbor's sought-after neighborhoods. The area earns its name from Eber White, an early settler and a prominent supporter of the Underground Railroad. Homes here date back to the late 1800s and continued over several centuries, giving the community a mix of historic and modern residences. The neighborhood's elementary and middle schools are within walking distance. Eberwhite Woods, at the heart of the community, is accessible from behind the local Zion Lutheran Church. The city center awaits less than 3 miles away. "Many people go to downtown Ann Arbor for the restaurants, shopping and various events held in the downtown area," says Hope Herron, a real estate agent with Keller Williams in Ann Arbor.

Diverse home styles and prices in Eberwhite
The community features several home styles from different eras along hilly forested streets, ranging from Colonials and American Foursquares to bungalows. The pricing in Eberwhite is equally diverse. A ranch style from the 20th century generally costs between $380,000 and $550,000, while Colonials often range from $500,000 to $650,000. The most historic homes, over a century in age, can be priced anywhere from $450,000 to over $1 million. Sometimes, potential homeowners only have a few days to buy once Eberwhite homes go on the market. “Houses typically sell within three to five days,” says Marygrace Liparoto, associate broker with RE/MAX Home Sale Services. “Homes are only listed that long because the seller wants to explore all the offers and fully expose the home to the market."

Walking through Virginia Park and the Eberwhite Woods
Eberwhite’s streets are crisscrossed by trails connecting locals to natural areas and city parks. Eberwhite Woods and the smaller Eberwhite Nature Area sit adjacent to the elementary school, both owned and maintained by the Ann Arbor Public School District as a natural hardwood forest that has never been clear-cut. Many area residents enjoy strolling through the walking trails flanked by spring wildflowers, ponds and a natural amphitheater. Virginia Park is a five-acre green space that provides a gateway to the Eberwhite Woods. The park’s center features a small playground veiled by trees. Nearby Fritz Park offers another picturesque spot for respite, with softball fields, basketball courts and a playground.
A fungus species, Bolitus eberwhitei, was first identified in Eberwhite Woods in 1965.
Eberwhite Woods ranks as one of the more ecologically interesting sites in Ann Arbor.
