Hollywood Park
Suburban Neighborhood in Ann Arbor, Michigan
Washtenaw County 48103
Vintage homes with room for growth
Ranch-style houses, Colonial Revivals, Cape Cods and split-level homes, which were the four model house options when the community was developed in the 1960s, dominate the area. More modern builds, some as recent as 2023, are also available. Homes tend to be between $400,000 and $700,000, with between 1,700 and 3,000 square feet. Yards average a quarter acre, more space than homes get closer to the city. Homeowners use the extra space by adding pools, hot tubs and playsets. And that's not the only way to expand. "There's a good mix of housing sizes that fit a variety of families," Stukkie says. "And you see families that settle down and grow, adding pop-top additions to make two-story homes." In addition to the housing, several apartment complexes are in the area, resulting in a nearly even mix of renters and owners.Wooded parks and nearby outdoor recreation
Right next to Abbot Elementary is Hollywood Park, a small 3-acre pocket of woodlands. The neighborhood’s namesake is a point of pride for the community. Once scheduled to be clear-cut and redeveloped in 1964, the community protests saved it. The park’s main feature is a primitive trail running through the woods that showcases wildflowers in the spring. The wildflowers extend into a grassy meadow where residents picnic. Volunteers and staff are active in maintaining and restoring the area by removing invasive species. The community is also home to Evergreen Park, where over 3 acres of woodlands give way to hiking trails and a small playground. Veterans Memorial Park is less than a mile away for a wider variety of outdoor recreation and organized sports. The park houses a winter ice-skating arena that hosts hockey leagues and is available for rental, while in summer, the public swimming pool is open, offering family-focused swim times, lessons and a waterslide. The spacious park also has baseball fields, tennis courts and the Ann Arbor skatepark, a 30,000-square-foot space that is free and open to the public.Top-rated schools with extracurricular opportunities
Small class sizes, an active parent-teacher organization and a cross-grade-level buddy program help students feel connected at Abbot Elementary School, which received an A rating from Niche. The school is walkable from many homes. From there, Forsythe Middle School has a variety of extracurricular opportunities, from athletics and orchestra to a tabletop gaming club and a robotics club. Forsythe also gets an A rating. Forsythe feeds into the A-plus-rated Skyline High School, a certified green school with a magnet program to create flexible, hands-on, career-focused pathways for students to choose from. These pathways include engineering, health and medicine, media and communication, and information technology.Supporting the youth at Peace Neighborhood Center
Hollywood Park is home to Peace Neighborhood Center's main location. At its core, the local non-profit provides after-school care and summer camps for underprivileged youth. The center emphasizes family involvement by offering family field trips, educational events and bonding experiences. It also hosts health clinics and a weekly food distribution.Road noise and biking into downtown
Homes near Interstate 94 and Route 14 experience an underlying hum of road noise. That's the case for many neighborhoods across Ann Arbor, as the city sits within a ring of highways. Homes closer to the city are less affected. And the nearby roads do provide quick access to those traveling outside the city. For trips farther into the city, downtown Ann Arbor is about 3 miles away. Bus lines and designated bike lanes run down Miller and Dexter Avenue, a popular option to avoid parking in the city. "We're a nice recreational spot in the heart of everything, so there's always something to do," says Peter Connor Belanger, a leasing agent at Arbor Landings Apartments who grew up in the area. "People love taking advantage of the bike-friendly streets to go downtown."Walk or take a short drive to retail and restaurants
At the southeast tip of the neighborhood, there is a commercial center that includes Aldi and Plum Market. Many homes are less than a mile away, making for quick trips to grab groceries. The shopping centers continue a little over a mile down North Maple Road, offering a Kroger and the Ann Arbor Public Library's Westgate Branch. Nearby restaurant standouts include Zingerman's Roadhouse, which serves upscale twists on classic diner fare. It’s a sister location to Zingerman’s Deli, an Ann Arbor staple known for its massive sandwiches and gourmet deli items imported from around the world. Knight's Restaurant, right next to the Aldi, has a classy steakhouse feel with signature cocktails and daily lunch specials.
