Northside
Suburban Neighborhood in Ann Arbor, Michigan
Washtenaw County 48105
Townhomes and condos among the greenery
Though single-family homes can be found in the Northside, they’re becoming less and less available over time. “A lot of the newest construction is centered around those Craftsman-style townhomes and condos,” says Boyd. Townhomes start in the mid-$500,000s, though newer examples can run as high as the low-$900,000s. Single-family homes run the gamut of shapes and sizes, with ranch-style homes starting in the low $300,000s and Colonial revivals hitting the mid-$600,000s. Classic Mid-century Modern homes can reach the low-$900,000s. As you move northeast, away from the Huron River, lot sizes tend to increase. The community also features student housing and apartments for residents.A wide selection of parks and greenery
Despite its proximity to downtown, the Northside is well known for its many green spaces, including several parks, nature areas and waterways. At 54 acres, Olson Park is one of the largest in the area and features mountain bike trails, natural wetlands and a fenced-in dog park. The Black Pond Woods Nature Area is a dense woodland teeming with trees, flowers and wildlife.Pre-K to adult access to high-ranking education
Education is a primary draw in the Northside between its high-ranking public schools and proximity to the North Campus of the University of Michigan. “People move here for the school system specifically,” says Boyd of Toll Brothers. Students in the area can begin their journey through the public school system at Logan Elementary School, which scores an A on Niche. From there, they can attend Ann Arbor STEAM at Northside before enrolling at Skyline High School, both of which have an A-plus. The newest high school in the district, Skyline features an interdisciplinary magnet program dedicated to supporting individual student interests and applying what they’ve learned in the real world. Older students can take advantage of the Northside being just shy of a mile from the University of Michigan’s North Campus.Travel downtown with The Ride
Though bikes are popular, busy streets and a lack of regular sidewalks make foot traffic less common. Public bus line The Ride is a popular choice with students and professionals all over Ann Arbor, and pickups occur roughly every half hour at $1.50 a ride.Film festivals and football
Ann Arbor is known for several signature events, including the annual Ann Arbor Film Festival, which has been celebrating the world of cinema since 1963. The University of Michigan’s Maize vs. Blue Spring Game pits the University of Michigan football team against itself and stands as their first appearance before the fall season kicks into high gear.Breakfast at the Northside Cafe
At over 30 years old, the Northside Grill has a reputation as a local brunch favorite, featuring everything from huevos rancheros to German-style potato pancakes. Rappourt offers a rotating selection of 44 craft beers alongside wings, burgers and butter curry poutine. Just across the Huron River, residents can explore the specialty stores of Kerrytown Market & Shops, and the Kroger is just a mile east.
