A lakeside community on the Wisconsin-Illinois border
Right up against the Wisconsin-Illinois border, Oakland Knolls is an Antioch subdivision offering private access to the lakeside. While Antioch is part of Illinois’s Chain O’ Lakes region, Oakland Knolls residents don’t have to leave the community to access the water—Cross Lake sits on the state border, so those living along the shoreline can just walk into their backyards to enjoy the region’s lakes. The community also offers the Oakland Knolls Property Owners Association (OKPOA), which homeowners can opt to join and gives members access to the community’s private park, beach and fishing piers. As part of Antioch, residents can head downtown for charming local restaurants and community events hosted by the Village.

Oakland Knolls' private fishing piers and downtown tennis courts
Homes along the Cross Lake’s shoreline might have private docks, so residents looking to spend a day relaxing on the waters or fishing can easily access the water. Otherwise, residents can join OKPOA to use one of the private docks and fishing piers off Lakewood Drive. Also, along the shoreline, the community’s park, equipped with a playground, is available for OKPOA members. In downtown Antioch, Gage Brothers Park features an old-fashioned sawmill along Sequoit Creek. Many locals come to this park to sit under the canopy of leaves and just listen to the running water. A bit west of downtown, Centennial Park offers tennis courts and baseball diamonds on an open terrain.

Ranch-style and split-level homes lining the lakeshore
When heading to the community’s private lake access points, residents can pass streets lined with split-level and ranch-style homes. While streets don’t have sidewalks here, the roads have an open feel, with only the occasional outcropping of mature trees offering a break from the sun. Homes along Zelinger Lane, Oakwood Drive and Lakewood Drive border the shoreline for better views and access to Cross Lake. Properties here typically range between $200,000 and $350,000, with the split-level homes often selling for more than the ranches.
Oakwood Knolls contains many two-story split-level homes and one-story ranch homes.

The private Annual Corn Festival hosted by Oakland Knolls
Throughout the year, the OKPOA hosts community events, like the Annual Corn Festival in September. The organization brings in local vendors for a little market and offers corn-themed games, from cornhole to guessing the number of kernels in a jar. Downtown, the Antioch Farmers Market meets on Thursdays from June to September, bringing in local produce to the community. “In the summer, Antioch has free concerts at the bandshell on Thursday nights,” says real estate agent Jack Fields with Realty, whose family has lived in Antioch for generations. “And everyone shows up for that.” For fall, the annual House Decorating Contest encourages the community to get creative and spooky with their Halloween décor.

Downtown's coffeeshops and German restaurants
Marked by a neon lettering sign and bulbs, The Vegas Café has served downtown Antioch for over 50 years. Inside, a mural with iconic pop-culture figures like Marilyn Monroe and Batman overlooks the dining area as visitors enjoy pancake and omelet dishes, though the restaurant does serve sandwiches and burgers for lunch. The Rivalry Alehouse puts a German spin on the classic Irish-American pub, with dishes like the Bavarian pretzel, spaetzle and schnitzel marked with German flags on the menu. For a caffeine lift, The Latte Café and Bakery roasts their coffee beans daily and bakes their pastries fresh, with a rotating menu keeping regulars engaged. Also downtown, Piggly Wiggly is about 1.5 miles from Oakland Knolls. Down Lake Street, Jewel-Osco is 2 miles away.
