Residential housing development within a mile of chain retailers
Anchored by a public park of the same name, Cedar Isle is an entirely residential neighborhood in Apple Valley, Minnesota. This 1990s-era housing development is within walking distance of swing sets, a small pond and sand volleyball courts, and community members advertise yard sales or lost pets on the Cedar Isle private Facebook page. “The neighborhood association maintains the niceness of the area,” says Christa Hartig of Edina Realty, who has over 25 years of experience in the industry, adding, “It’s probably one of the nicer, most sought-after neighborhoods in Apple Valley.” The city's downtown, known for its network of chain retailers and restaurants, is about a mile away and the larger city of Minneapolis is 20 miles north. Saint Paul is also a 20-mile drive away, making Cedar Isle a popular destination among commuters.

1990s-era Traditional housing
New Traditionals and Colonial Revivals from the 1990s make up the majority of the housing stock in Cedar Isle. “It’s one of the newer neighborhoods in the city — well, by Apple Valley standards — and most houses were built in the early ‘90s.” Prices range from around $315,000 for single-level homes to upwards of $700,000 for the neighborhood’s largest properties, some of which feature backyard swimming pools and views of the small lake in Cedar Isles Park. Streets are quiet and it’s common to find multi-car garages and driveway's lined with basketball hoops. “You pretty much only see the homeowners driving around here. There’s very little thru traffic,” says Hartig. The neighborhood’s CAP Index Crime Score is a 3 out of 10, slightly below the national average of 4.

A namesake park and a nearby aquatic center
Cedar Isle’s namesake park, which itself is anchored around a small pond, spans just over 8 acres and features a sand volleyball court, playground equipment and a basketball court all at the center of the neighborhood. A few blocks away, locals can practice their archery skills in Scott Park, and Johnny Cake Ridge Park — which is divided into an eastern and western portion by Johnny Cake Ridge Road — is home to several Eastview High School athletic fields. There’s also the Family Aquatic Center, which has a lazy river, water slides and splash pads open from June through August. Families can also invest in season passes for the Minnesota Zoo, 3 miles away.

Big-box retail and groceries down Foliage Avenue
One of Cedar Isle’s main appeals is its proximity to shopping and dining, and big-box stores like Sam’s Club and Menards are less than a mile south along Foliage Avenue. Sidewalks along the thoroughfare make the trip walkable, and there’s also a Fresh Thyme Market for groceries and casual eateries like Pizzeria Social and the Minnesota Burger Company. More shopping opportunities are a few blocks away in Apple Valley Square and Time Square. Bogart’s Entertainment Center on Garrett Avenue offers a menu of American classics and the venue — which also has several bowling lanes — hosts weekly trivia nights, karaoke and acoustic musicians on their patio.
Fresh Thyme Farmers Market is a nearby grocery option with lots of organic offerings.
Residents can find lots of restaurants in the business district just south of the neighborhood.

Dual college credit programs at Eastview High School
Students are districted for the Rosemount-Apple Valley-Eagan School District, where they can start off at Greenleaf Elementary before moving on to Falcon Ridge Middle, both of which earn B-plus grades from Niche. Eastview High School, which Hartig says is within walking distance for many students, receives an A grade. Some elect to take courses at nearby universities through the Post Secondary Enrollment Options, or PSEO, Program. They can also earn university credit through the College in Schools, CIS, Program, a special partnership with the University of Minnesota.

Metro transit to The Mall of America and Minneapolis
Most commuters use their own cars to travel into Minneapolis, but the larger city is also accessible via the Metro System. The Red Line — a bus rapid transit service — stops at 147th Street Station on Cedar Avenue and travels north towards the Mall of America Transit Station in Bloomington. From here, residents can ride the Blue Line light rail into Minneapolis. The Twin Cities’ international airport, ranked among the top travel hubs in the United States, is around 13 miles from the neighborhood via Minnesota State Route 77, a drive that typically takes around 15 minutes. Medical care is accessible at M Health Fairview Ridges Hospital, less than 5 miles away in Burnsville.
