Old Town
Old Town's neighborhood parks and lakeside amenities
No matter what direction residents set off, they’ll eventually end up at a neighborhood park in Old Town. Each offers something different, from the simple open field at Carrington Park to the playgrounds and basketball courts at Greening Park and Pennock Park. Valley Middle Park shares its grounds with one of the elementary and middle schools, offering four baseball diamonds and a football field encircled by a track along with its playground and basketball courts. On the western side of Old Town, Lac Lavon offers two lakeside parks, one managed by Apple Valley’s park system and the other managed by Burnsville’s. The Apple Valley side has a boardwalk overlooking the lake and a canoe launch. “If you’re looking for more peaceful paddleboarding and canoeing, you’ll go to Lac Lavon,” Halverson says. On the Burnsville side, the park stretches for 71 acres along Lac Lavon and Keller Lake, where people can rent canoes during the summer. While Lac Lavon is a quieter lake for fishing and non-motorized boating, Halverson emphasizes that nearby Crystal Lake offers swimming and motorized boating opportunities.
Split levels and ranch-style homes throughout Old Town
Split-level and ranch-style homes line the majority of Old Town’s streets. Trees grow between the curb and the sidewalk, planted at regular intervals and offering adequate shade over the sidewalks. Tended flowerbeds in front yards and along walkways add touches of personality and color to the quarter- to half-acre properties. Most homes sell between $350,000 and $500,000, though some condos and townhomes are available in the Morningview subdivision, selling between $150,000 and $300,000.The Lac Lavon Shores subdivision has homes lining Lac Lavon. Since this lake is quieter, properties don’t often have private docks; instead, they offer personal launches and views of the waterfront. The Custom builds and New Traditionals typically sell between $630,000 and $900,000. “A lot of people circle this area on the map when looking for homes,” Halverson says. “You have to be patient. You might not get the first home in the area because it's so high demand.”
Three schools located in the community

Those living in the eastern half of the neighborhood head to Cedar Park Elementary School, located within walking distance and receiving an A-minus rating from Niche. Located on the opposite side of the community, Southview Elementary School serves the western half of Old Town and receives a B-plus rating. It shares its grounds with B-rated Valley Middle School of STEM, a science and technology magnet school where students can use 3D printers and laser cutters in the fabrication lab. Apple Valley High School is the only school not located in the neighborhood that receives a B-plus rating.Nearby grills and steakhouses in downtown Apple Valley

On Fridays from June to August, Music in Kelley Park invites Apple Valley residents to listen to music or play at the park’s splash pad. Admission is free, but people can get food from local vendors. Freedom Days Celebration is a week-long festival that kicks off a week before Independence Day. Residents can attend a car show, carnival and concerts throughout the week. The week always closes out with a fireworks show. The parade is a big part of the almost 60-year tradition and changes times and dates every year depending on the weather forecast.
