Life in the redwood hills of Arcata
With hillside views of Arcata Bay, sprawling redwood forests and walkability to Downtown Arcata, the community of East Arcata-Bay View is where city conveniences meet the Northern California wilderness. It’s a small residential neighborhood in Arcata that's surrounded by community parks and sits just south of California State Polytechnic University, Humboldt, the county’s only major university. “You’re right next to Redwood Park, right next to the university, and it’s a little bit above the fog line, so you get more sun. It’s kind of a dream location for Arcata,” says Realtor Belia Stephens of Coldwell Banker Sellers Realty, a longtime area resident who is currently based in Arcata.
Redwood Park hiking and outdoor activities
East Arcata-Bay View is nearly surrounded by parkland. Its east edge is bordered by Redwood Park, a popular local hiking spot where trails are accessible from neighborhood streets. Rugged pathways twist and turn through forests and fields brimming with redwoods, flora and fauna. “Redwood Park is extremely popular, but it’s never overcrowded,” Stephens says. “Trails go for miles and miles across creeks, through wildflower meadows and amongst indescribably huge redwood trees that give a sense of peace and calm.” At the southern side of the neighborhood is Arcata Sports Complex and Arcata Community Park, where residents can take advantage of soccer fields, baseball diamonds and a playground. It's also home to HealthSPORT, an indoor fitness gym.
