The many lakes of Argentine Township
Argentine Township is an easygoing community between several lakes and streams in Central Michigan. Located southwest of Flint, Argentine Township was originally settled in the 1830s for the interconnected lake system that sits between the small towns of Byron and Linden. Nearly two centuries later, people are still moving to the civil township to be close to the water and the many recreational opportunities that come along with it. “That’s a major draw to this area," says Ricky Butterfield, a Realtor with Tremaine Real Estate who has lived in the township since the 1980s. “Everybody wants to live on a lake now.”
Boating in Lobdell Lake and camping at Myers Lake
Many people like to go swimming and fishing out on the township’s many lakes, the biggest of which is Lobdell Lake on the southeastern corner. Several lakegoers will launch their boats from the west side and go jet skiing, while others will go kayaking and canoeing in McCaslin Lake farther north. Myers Lake has cabins and campsites where visitors park their RVs, as well as a sandy beach with a lakehouse and a volleyball court. It also has a dog park and a recreation center with arcade games and ping pong tables. There are hiking trails through over 360 acres of wooded forests at the Deerfield Hills Nature Area, as well as an 18-hole championship golf course in Coyote Preserve Golf Club that’s open to the public.
A variety of housing styles right by the lake
Most waterfront houses can be found south around the township’s main lakes. Ranch-style homes are most prevalent, many of which sit on acreage with pole barns and oak trees. There are also some cottages, cabins and split-level properties in the community, and other houses can have Cape Cod, Colonial and farmhouse-style architecture. New contemporary and Craftsman homes are also under construction, many of which have private boat docks on the lake. Some houses can even be found on islands within Lobdell Lake. Older homes built before the 2000s cost between $115,000 and $400,000, while many modern homes range between $400,000 and $850,000. A few luxury lakefront homes feature traditional styles and range from $1 to $1.5 million.
A few restaurants and a Northshore Market
Argentine Township has a handful of restaurants in the primary commercial corridor. Cancun Mexican Restaurant #2 is popular for its tacos, nachos and margaritas, while Hungry Howie's offers deep dish and Detroit-style slices. Northshore Market is directly west of Lobdell Lake and offers groceries and live bait for fishing expeditions. “A lot of people order pizzas, go pick them up and enjoy them on the lake,” Butterfield says. “They do hand-dipped ice cream there as well. It’s a pretty popular spot for a lot of people.”
Career and college readiness in Linden Community Schools
The township is zoned for three school districts, one of which is Linden Community Schools, which offers school choice to out-of-area students and earns an A-minus on Niche. Linden Elementary serves kindergarten through third-grade students, while Central Elementary teaches fourth and fifth grade. Linden Middle School has a career and college readiness program, and Linden High School offers dual enrollment and advanced placement courses. All four schools earn B-pluses on Niche.
MTA Flint transit and a highway between Fenton and Flint
U.S. Route 23 runs east of the township and leads over 20 miles north to Flint. “It’s centrally located, and it’s easy to get around for people who work in different areas,” Butterfield says. “If you work in a larger city like Lansing or Detroit, you can easily access one of the expressways to get there quickly.” MTA Flint offers personalized transit throughout Genesee County, and the 24-hour McLaren Fenton hospital is around 7 miles east. Bishop International Airport is located southwest of Flint and serves over 280,000 passengers in a year.
