A rural community on the Flathead Reservation
Located along U.S. Route 93 between the Rattlesnake Mountains and the Reservation Divide, Evaro is a small community offering seclusion and wilderness access. “It’s a blink of a place. If you blink, you’ll miss it,” says Brittni Hertz, a sales associate with the Hertz Team at ERA Lambros who has sold homes in the area. “Evaro is really where people live if they want to live off-grid. You can have some ranches and farms out there, but the topography isn’t as great, so you’ll have some steep properties.” Evaro is about 15 miles north of Missoula on the southern end of the Flathead Reservation. The reservation was created as a home for the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes, but white homesteaders still settled on the land in the late 1800s. Today, about one-third of the reservation’s land is owned by non-tribe members, including much of Evaro.
Mountain homes in the Montana countryside
Evaro is very rugged and mountainous, so most homes are concentrated on quiet rural streets that branch off Route 93. Housing styles include ranch-style, log cabins and new traditional brick homes. Most are on large lots of anywhere from 2 to 5 acres and covered in mature trees, making the property feel like a private camp. Some homes have creeks and streams flowing through the property, while others back up to tribal-owned land and nearby hiking trails. Houses typically cost between $760,000 and $1.6 million. Homebuyers should be aware of an increased risk of wildfires in the area due to the location in the mountains.
