Mountain homes in the Montana countryside
Evaro is very rugged and mountainous, so most homes are concentrated on quiet rural streets that branch off Route 93. Housing styles include ranch-style, log cabins and new traditional brick homes. Most are on large lots of anywhere from 2 to 5 acres and covered in mature trees, making the property feel like a private camp. Some homes have creeks and streams flowing through the property, while others back up to tribal-owned land and nearby hiking trails. Houses typically cost between $760,000 and $1.6 million. Homebuyers should be aware of an increased risk of wildfires in the area due to the location in the mountains.Exploring the Montana mountains on the Flathead Reservation
There are no parks in Evaro, but some of western Montana’s most popular natural attractions are close by. The Snowbowl ski area towers above the community, offering a popular place for winter sports. While the mountain is just south of Evaro, the drive is about 22 miles, taking residents south to Missoula before heading north up Grant Creek Road. There are hiking trails throughout the community, many of which connect to residential streets and have trailheads behind private homes. Non-tribal members need to purchase a permit to use the land for hiking and other activities like hunting or fishing. Flathead Lake is the largest natural freshwater lake west of the Mississippi River and is about 50 miles north of Evaro. The lake is a popular destination for boating, swimming, fishing and picnicking.Commuting to Arlee schools each morning
Students in Evaro might attend Arlee Elementary School and Arlee Junior High School, each receiving a C rating from Niche. Arlee High School is rated a C-plus and serves approximately 150 students. The schools are about 8 miles north of the community along Route 93. Arlee High School offers several activities for students to participate in, including a National Honor Society chapter and speech and debate teams.Getting around Western Montana on U.S. 93
Due to Evaro’s rural location, the area has no public transit options. U.S. Route 93 is the only road to nearby communities, offering an 8-mile drive north to Arlee or a 15-mile drive south to the edge of Missoula. Downtown Missoula is about 20 miles away, and Missoula Montana Airport is 13 miles from Evaro. The closest hospital is Providence St. Patrick Hospital in downtown Missoula.Popular restaurants along U.S. 93
While Evaro is a rural area, a few popular restaurants exist in the community. “There’s this brand new Kampfire Steakhouse out there. They just opened, and they’re wildly popular,” Hertz says. Kampfire Steakhouse is located just off Route 93, south of Evaro, and is known for its local cuts of steak and hamburgers. The nearby Evaro Bar & Casino serves local craft beers and is popular for its half-pound Bertha Burger. Gray Wolf Peak Casino is a tribal-owned casino with plenty of slots and machine games, plus a restaurant that serves the "Indian Taco" made with fry bread. For groceries, most residents head to Missoula to shop at stores like Costco or Albertsons. Wilson Foods, a grocery store in Arlee, is about 8 miles north.
