Ivy Hill
Ivy Hill's subdivisions split across Windsor Drive
Ivy Hill is actually split into two separate subdivisions—Ivy Hill and Ivy Hill East, located on the eastern side of Windsor Drive. In Ivy Hill, mature trees shade the sidewalk. In the fall, their leaves fall on the lightly manicured front gardens that accent the neighborhood's Colonial Revivals, split-levels and Tudors. Ivy Hill East has a more open feel, with younger trees crowding up less space. This side of the neighborhood offers the same housing styles, with the addition of ranch-style homes mixed in. Across the neighborhood, homes sell for between $400,000 and $800,000.Students walk to Ivy Hill Elementary School
Students in the Ivy Hill subdivision can walk over to Ivy Hill Elementary School on weekdays. Niche grants the school an A-minus. After, they continue to Thomas Middle School, which receives an A-minus. Buffalo Grove High School earns an A-plus. On the other side of Windsor Drive, Ivy Hill East students begin kindergarten and first grade at Dwight D. Eisenhower Elementary School, whichl is currently unrated on Niche and GreatSchools. Betsy Ross Elementary School serves second and third grades, while Anne Sullivan Elementary School houses fourth and fifth graders. Both elementary schools and MacArthur Middle School earn A-minuses from Niche. Wheeling High School receives an A. Both high schools offer Advanced Placement Program classes.Boating and fishing on Lake Arlington just down the street
Lake Arlington stretches along Ivy Hill, within walking distance from most homes. The lake spans 50 acres and was originally designed to help with stormwater and flooding. Today, it's mostly known as a gathering place for catch-and-release fishing on the pier or boating. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the boathouse rents paddleboards and kayaks. “People also use it for sailing. Don’t get too excited,” laughs broker Lindsey Kaplan with @Properties. “It’s not that big, but they have a sailing club for beginning sailing.” A 2-mile pathway encircles the lake, where people can take a stroll and watch the ducks on the water. The path also connects to the one at Wildwood Park, which offers more athletic amenities, like tennis and basketball courts and soccer fields.Connecting to downtown Arlington Heights by car
While Ivy Hill residents can walk to the park and school, most residents will rely on their cars to get around the village. Downtown Arlington Heights is about 2.5 miles away, accessible along Arlington Heights Road. Also along Arlington Heights Road is NCH Busse Center, the closest medical center, about 4.5 miles away. The Arlington Heights Metra station is also downtown, connecting commuters to downtown Chicago, about 32 miles away, though motorists can also take Interstate 90. When traveling beyond Arlington Heights and Chicagoland, Chicago O’Hare International Airport is 16.5 miles from Ivy Hill.Rand Road's big box stores and local restaurants
Arlington Heights residents flock to downtown, which is full of locally owned restaurants. Mago Grill and Cantina serves up Mexican cuisine in a dining room lined with Luchador masks. However, closer to Ivy Hill, Rand Road is lined with other restaurants and retail options. Sun Shui Asian Kitchen and Sushi’s wood paneling creates a warm and intimate dining environment. Palm Court serves steak and seafood entrées, with an outdoor patio adorned with roses and sleek black umbrellas for when the weather is nice. Most supermarkets are also along Rand Road, with Trader Joe’s and Jewel-Osco about 1 mile away and Target just 1.5 miles away. The whole thoroughfare is lined with big-box stores, like Best Buy and Marshalls.Arlington Heights' annual alfresco dining experience
As part of Arlington Heights, Ivy Hill residents can head downtown for its annual events. “Arlington Heights does July 4th and Memorial Day parades, and it’s very what you would think would happen in Midwest Americana,” Kaplan says. On Thursday evenings in the summer, Sounds of Summer Concerts bring local musicians to Harmony Park in downtown Arlington Heights—people arrive early to stake out their spots, with the park opening as early as 2 p.m. for people to set out their blankets. Every September since 2020, Harmony Fest transforms downtown into an alfresco dining experience. “They close off the center of downtown, and all of the restaurants have huge outdoor seating areas,” Kaplan says. “There’s always hundreds and hundreds of people walking around.”
